Title: It cut out and now it won't re-start
Post by: minid0m on 20 March 2005, 23:31
I was driving my mk2 Golf gti 8v today. It cut out while I was stationary at traffic lights. I tried to re start it but it would just turn over and wouldn't re start until half an hour later. I then  managed to drive about five miles until it conked out. I suspect its a fuel issue.

Listening to the fuel pump it the boot it sounds like it comes on for a couple of seconds,  after I stop trying to crank the engine over. Is this normal?

The oil light is flashing as well, but I don't know what relevance has to it cuting out. While driving, the oil light would come on for a few seconds now and then, when warm and occasionally for a bit longer, bear in mind, I've had the car 24 hours and don't know much about it.

I can't hear the fuel pump when I turn on the ignition, could it be the fuel pump relay?
