My golf gti mk1 8v was stuttering ang stalling a few days ago, now the engine wont start, It seems to be popping from the air filter pipe.
I;ve crack the fitting from the fuel filter to the metering head there's LOTS of presure fuel sprayed everywhere, I have just have replaced the spark plugs, dizzy cap, air filter and oil change.
-
Has it got a spark.
-
Yes it does.
-
have you put the leads on the correct way? i know its stupid but i messed up this!
-
I thought so but maybe not, iam gonna check after work.
-
the order is different for 8/16v i think so check, i think 8v is 1342. hope that helps
-
I've checked and I don't think it's firing on the first cylinder, but haven't got a clue how do it :-(
-
is there a spark?
-
Yes all spark plugs have a spark but not sure if they are firing in the right order.
-
turn the engine to TDC and look where the dizzy rotor arm is, thats where lead 1 will go once you put the cap back on. Then its 1342 clockwise.
-
I think I've worked it out, I can get it to start without It back firing but I have to put throttle pedal right to the floor or it will cut out, but it runs really rough.
-
leads are in the wrong order then, i had the same.
-
If number one is pointing to bottom right on the dizzy, where does the others go?
-
1342 clockwise, but 1 might not be in that posistion it depends where the dizzy is.
-
I've give in and towed it to garage this morning :-(
-
Got it back and running but still not right  needs a new metering head.

I've got one mate.
