i cant get my head around all this gear box stuff . to put my 1.8 20v turbo in my mk1 ive been told loads of things ive been told i need 100mm short drive shafts ok no problem
then i get told i need 100mm flanges on the box! which my box doesent have so i get told i need to change my box to a box with the 100mm flanges
got told tonight i can just change my original flanges on my original box to 100mm ones to fit the 100mm short d/shafts ????
this would be the best option for me so i dont have to buy anouther box ! can anyone confirm this for me that i can just change the flanges lol ?
cheers guys
-
Yes you should be able to change just the flanges.
-
right after a day of ringing around this is what you need if you want the 100mm gearbox flanges to fit the 100mm short driveshafts
this is for the standerd box from a AGU 1.8 20v T 02J . so its just a matter of changing the flanges
part number 02A409355D
from TPS
59.58 each
SORTED !!

sweet thanks budd . ive just been studying the haynes and it dont cover much really !!
-
had similar problems 100mm inner flanges 32 quid each from gsf parts
-
i havent got around to doing them yet ive taken the drive shafts off to reveal the flange my flange is on with a allen key stud so im guessing when ive unscrewed that ill have the clip to get out
-
my 020 box was exactly as shown on broke vw. dont know about your allen bolt mate. is there a cap in the centre?
i think you will need a puller to get the flange off as they should be tight on the shaft. i used this
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cht223-46-pce-harmonic-balance-puller (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cht223-46-pce-harmonic-balance-puller)
with some long m8 bolts n washers and got a bit of m10 threaded rod n nuts and large washers when pushing it back on.
did you get new seals? they are 65x50i.dx10

what i remember buddy from the outherday was i took the passenger d/shaft off with the 8 bolts or so from the flange . then there was a cap that had 3 metal clips on it that was attached to the shaft in a star shape as the flanges are star shaped the cap came off attached to the shaft . . ! anyways all this off revealed a allen key stud in the centre of the gearbox flange and thats where im at at the mo lol any ideas?? think its a 02j aswell !
-
pure guess work mate, but can you see any sort of circlip holding the flange on? if not i reckon undo the allen bolt
-
thats the next move i will be un doing the allenkey bolt  ill keep you posted
-
i have some 100mm flanges for a mk2 8v box i need to swap for 90mm ones also the inner cv.if anyone needs to swap.i dont know how theyre fastened on yet i havent got that far.
-
not sure if the ones im taking off are 90mm ones there on a standerd agu box if they are you can have them

finally worked out how to put pics on heres the flange
-
undo that allen bolt as that looks like it holds that green cap on. then undo cap and post another pic
-
undone the allen bolt  the flange just pop'd straight out . i havent taken it completely off yet tho as diddent want oil everwhere so im guessing it should just slide off and must have a spring behind it .
looks like a tool to be made to compress it back on bud
-
try a huge g clamp to push flange back on, i take it box is out of car
-
yea box and engine out going to rebuild both !
ye i did acctually think g clamp so ill give that a whirl might aswell throw a vr6 g60 clutch conversion in it aswell whilst shes off
