just fitted my tsr cam and jetex exhaust, all was well, runnning sweet as, unti i puled up at some lights, it felt like there was a clicking on my clutch pedal, then as i pulled away the car sounded like it was running like a dog! pulled over and i can only describe the noise as if it had ost compression, but the engine is sweet, stil revs up perfect, idles perfect etc, just sounds like a bag of bolts! am i likely to have ruined my third box in 6 months! or coud this be clutch failure, the clutch pedal is fine, i wil be rather hacked off if its the box again! can anyone help....

what box what engine ?
-
sorry 020 mk2 2.0l 8v
-
ummm give it some pedal do we ?
chances are you've poped the diff rivets. that is a well known favoret 020 trick you have 3 choices
1) put an 02A box in it ( you won't kill that with an 8v )
2) buy another 020 ( or if yours is ok or weldable ) split it take the diff out drill the rivets out an replace them with a bolt kit.
3) shove another stock 020 in and hope

oh joy! well box is coming out again today. was hoping a spring had just popped off the pressure plate but i doubt im gonna be that lucky am i! where to i get a bolt kit from.....thanks
-
problem sorted! clutch had oblitorated itself somehow, only half was still there the rest in pieces! then once i replaced the clutch the bell housing has been scored so much by the debris that it had to be removed again and grinded down to stop it sreeching! full days work under the car f'ing and blinding! lesson learnt of the day: dont be so heavy footed and destroy a clutch in 4 months!!
-
my personal record is 4 days for an 020 clutch
-
Was it a cheap or quality clutch kit, 4mths seems a short lifespan.
-
only a £55 jobby from euro's, just a pain in the arse i had to take the box out twice! im terrible with this car, thats 3 box's 2 clutch's and an engine change in 6 months! lol
-
do you keep sidestepping the clutch when bounceing on the rev limiter.
i did that onece with the syncro when i had the 020 box in there. only did it once the brand new sachs clutch went bang
-
what do u mean sidestepping?
-
when you just side your foot off the side of the pedal and let the clutch fly up.
a good tip if you want to race off the lights is to dring the clutch just up to the bite at the lights rather than all the way to the floor. that way theer is some torque being applyed to the box so all the lash in the gears is taken up before you present loads of power to them. makes gearboxes last longer.
shock loadings are good at killing friction disks, pressureplates, gears and diffs in all cars
-
yea cant say i remember doing that though.......maybe i did heyho, thanks
