Title: new cambelt, car feels slower.
Post by: Bigs on 05 April 2011, 21:00
Hello all,

I'd be grateful for any advice you could offer. I've just had a new cambelt (kit) and waterpump
fitted to my 4yr old ed30 dsg at a main vw dealer but since collecting the car i get the feeling that
it's less eager through the gears. Although i wasn't advised at the dealers to take it easy for a while,
a friend of mine said to, so took it easy for 80 miles or so but the car still feels like it's missing a couple
of bhp, i'm no expert but feels like 5 or 10 bhp. Otherwise car runs great, just a little less eager, even
on a cold evening when it's usually at it's best.

Had the car from new and it's not been remapped. Always use 99ron. Thought i'd ask here before going
back to the dealer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cam timing out, it is a long shot but would be worth them checking it.

Hi, how much did they charge for the belt and pump all in?!

Exactly my thoughts as that's what's up with mine.

Thanks a lot for the replies, i'll ask the dealer to check the timing. Scott84, it cost £399 all in, that includes
two year warranty on parts used.

£399 is correct if it includes the water pump - which he did have changed.
Just had mine changed today, but not had the chance to go for a blast.
It is a bit warmer today, so this may explain poorer performance. Cold air is best - just love winter ;-)

Not sure you'll be able to detect 5 -1 bhp loss with your bum dyno :)

There may be a way to find out if your timing belt is slightly out via VCDS - not sure how on the ed30 engine but I've measured it on other VAG engines as follows;

Engine module, block 93.

Cheers.

Many thanks for the replies, i appreciate it. Having the car looked at next week.

Thanks too, Ed30DSG for that tip. Oh and 'bum dyno' . . . love that. Cheers.
