Title: Hesitation around 3000rpm
Post by: ebo007 on 05 April 2011, 19:31
Hi,

My car is hesiatating around 3000 rpm in every gear other than 1st. Between 3 @ 4k it seems down on power/torque. The car has recently had full service with all filters, plugs, belts, dizzy cap and rotor arm changed but it is still happening.

My mechanic noticed the rearbox baffles on the exhaust had gone, could this be causing the problem? There was also some black string out of my exhaust a few weeks ago, i'm guessing this was from the cat if thats gone could this be the problem?

Any suggestions appreciated? Had a search but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Cheers

If its misfiring, or has previously at those revs, it would probably indicate a duff MAF (did on mine anyway). All I did to sort it though was give it a quick squirt with the contact cleaner which sorted it, but I still get a slight hesitation at that point. I have replaced the MAF with a used one to see what happened but its exactly the same mate. Dont know if its a common thing on them, or the misfire was masking a slight problem somewhere else. I dont rag the sh!t out of it, and dont often go that high up the rev range so it doesnt really bother me.

I had exactly the same problem on mine, my car now runs like a dream WITHOUT the MAF :)

Without the MAF. Does it work ok like that? Won't that cause problems or damage anything?

I wouldn't advise removing the MAF. Its there for a reason mate. Get it checked out sooner rather than later

No misfire, its running sweet just down on power between 3&4000 rpm.

I had the exact same problem on my old 200sx. Never got it solved, however sources did tell me the ECU have been a culprit.

Mine didnt really hesitate just felt like it had more to give but since my de-cat feels far better and revs alot more now could even be the CAT.

have seen lots of people saying about this usally air flow meter or ecu relay if you have tried these try crank breather pipe give it a good clean with some form of cleaner then try throttle body clean with carb cleaner if still no joy, change back box maybe cat depends how much gash you have hope this helps

I had the same problem and noticed that there was a ticking noise coming from the throttle body and it turned out to be the throttle position sensor sticking, slackened throttle cable bit of wd40 a few taps and now it flies.
