Came back from work today and on my way home (whilst walking) I had a feeling that my car would have picked up a dent. It had!
The Dentman is coming on Saturday to have a look and try and fix it. He thinks he can. There is a rubber bung 5" in front and underneath which could help with tool insertion. Otherwise, he has another method, he says.
The paint has also been damaged. Must have been the Dustmen or Re-cycle monkeys who caused this. The metal is pretty strong in this area, so it must have been quite a thwack.
Pretty annoyed.
Here are 2 pictures.

Not good Asker
Hate the fact that others don't look after other people's property.
Let's hope Mr Dentman can work his magic

Adrian, I think it could have happened when the Dustmen/Recycle men opened the door of their vehicles.
Could it have been a football? Some kids were playing around yesterday.
So upset.

My feelings too.
Applied some gentle scratch remover, then some Toughseal sealents, then touched up the paint reasonably well. I'll buff it tomorrow once it has dried and apply more Toughseal. Hope The Dentman can remove the dent. If he cannot, then it's a bodyshop job which will be expensive due to paint matching problems.

FFS x2
Really sorry to hear that. Good luck with The Dentman, I'm surprised that you're using that clown.
-
That sucks - I hate careless people.
The bung is for fitting roofbars incidentally.
Hopefully the dentman can fix it easily and cheaply.
-
Oh know feel for you mate , lets hope he can sort it out I'm  sure you will get it fixed one way or another Asker
-
Bloomin Ada Asker
I think maybe it's time for you to move on, you and GTI don't gel so well
Seriously hope it's fixable.

The house next but one to me has scaffolding as they are doing a loft conversion.
I parked my car some distance away but in line of sight to this building, unfortunately. Due to the high winds we had, I think something must have flown off the roof and hit the car. It had to be mine!!!
Steve: You know me well. I'll get it fixed somehow!! Sleepless nights? How's it going, daddy?
Alex: The Dentman got in touch with me excatly one minute (!) after I contacted him and sent my pictures via MMS. Bloody scaffolders.
Amanda: Cheeky girl! As bad as kerbing Monza Shadows IMO.
Pete: I hope it can be fixed. Otherwise, it's an expensive bodyshop job.

Hmm, must have taken a course in how to run a business since I tried to use him.

Alex:
Can it be that he likes me more than you?
Or,
He prefers working on a iconic red GTI?

I don't need to be liked, I just want someone working for me to actually know the difference between their ar$e and elbow. It's the small things you know.
Get that respray, it'll make the cargo net seem dull in comparison.
-
Sodding typical. The more you try and look after something, the more the world conspires against you. Makes ya mad.
Now it's not just Wolfgang's pride that's dented after you called him a Ladyboy.
Fingers crossed Mr. Dentman can work some magic.

I think it could have happened when the Dustmen/Recycle men opened the door of their vehicles.
The Jewson driver was delivering to my Dads house. He'd parked at right angles to the back of his car, so that when he opened his door, it swung above the car roof. When the fat cuunt got back in, the cab dropped and he scrapped his door accross my Dad roof. If Dad hadn't seen it happen, he would have been none the wiser. Needless to say, Jewsons had the bill and to be fair, paid up.
-
put an identical dent on the other side. job done!

I love that! As they they say a few words can paint a 1000 pictures and you just have " When the fat cuunt got back in, the cab dropped and he scrapped his door accross my Dad roof." Absolutely priceless!

I hate it when folks do damage then run away thinking they got away with it. Recently happened to a family member in their new polo. They are just scum.
It looks like an awkward place for dent chap to fix, but as long as there are no crease marks he should make a good job of it, although, if like me you want your car perfect then in certain lights it will always catch your eye.
I'm one of those folks who park the car away from others in the carpark then come out to find that there is a bloody van parked next to me with hundreds of free spaces all around.

My dentman would do that and he's perfect - it's worth the drive AND he only charges 40 quid plus VAT for the whole car.....

Thanks Doc. I'll bear this in mind.
I'd love to travel north but have to be careful with the damaged shoulder.
I'd pay for him to come down to London if I am unsuccessful with my man.
The bodyshops want to spray the whole roof and I've told them to go and read Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler!
I am so busy at present and could have done without this additional headache.
Aaaarghhh.

Why all the stress about getting headaches? the dent isn't going anywhere or getting worse. I bet you face up all your tinned goods in the cupboard so the labels all face forward as the same angle? if the missus places one in at the wrong angle you have to have a lie down in a darkened room.
Hope you get it sorted easily but lets take a reality check please!

Now I dont think that a crooked tin of rice pudding is quite the same as someone elses careless damage to the op's car, that I dare say he has worked hard for and takes pride in.

Ninge: Don't eat tinned food and don't have the OCD you allude to.

I will take that as a compliment  wouldnt want to dent my pride

The VW body shop quoted me £770 + VAT and I told them to go forth and multiply but with a more colourful and shortened expression. They were shocked and so was I at their quote!
-
You think you've got problems with that little dent.
Ummm been quoted £2300 to fix!

Ah, yes. You clever cloggs.
It's probably that single lock-up he is trying to sell.
Really feel for him.

 Agggh Sorry to see that Sundaydriver thats a nasty one. Hope you manage to get it sorted. Thats what insurance is for I guess at the end of that day.

A red roof has been attacked.
A white roof has been attacked.

I'd pay for him to come down to London if I am unsuccessful with my man.
That's a Negative - sorry

The Dentman, Martin Leach, came his morning and fixed the dent. Had to drill a small hole to get the tool in. Apart from the slight chip on the paintwork, the dent has been removed and all FOC!! So kind of him

Good stuff, just a few layers of touch-up, polish - bob's yer uncle.
FOC??? Would it be rude to ask why? I come from an era when folks helped out each other for nout. These day's £50 to stand on your doorstep.

I have recommended him to a few people with excellent results.
It was his way of saying thank you. He is a real gentleman and a really nice guy.

Thanks. Painless to the my pocket so far but not to Wolfgang as he had to be drilled!
The Paintman is coming on Monday to finalise the finish.
Has saved me the best part of £770 + VAT, which the bodyshop wished to charge!
-
Were did he drill
-
Were did he drill
Underneath on the flat surface where the rubber bung is for roof bar fixing. This fixing point was 5" in front of the dent. He drilled behind the dent about 2" away. Painted the hole and put a new waterproof bung in. I'll take a picture next time I am near the car and post it.

Well, more good news.
The VW bodyshop will fix the chipped paint and any other surface damage for the new price of £200 inc VAT. Quite a drop from £770 + VAT.
I think I am on a winning streak at last.

The estimator Don/Dom (you know who I mean ) is a nutter. I told him so today and to try and get real. I explained to them that if he coninues in this vein, they'll be fixing themselves and not cars.
I'm surprised he does not estimate in multiples of 666.
I'll have a word with them when I see them on Monday regarding your quote.
If you wouldn't mind, that would be kind. The fact that I was referral business also suggested that they might be a little more decent considered how small my complaints actually are.

Gave car to VW bodyshop to repair the chipped paint on the roof edge. Collection sometime next week.
Will use pubic transport this weekend and part of next week.

Good luck.
I wish i had a public transport option

Watch out for hard braking bus drivers and stairs, they are a bad combination

You could move somewhere more civilized you know, but if you will insist in living in bandit country.....
Asker has a bus pass so it doesn't cost anything except several months off work and lots of pain. If you lived in my neck of the woods which is in a city centre you'd pay £4.00 return each just to go into the shopping centre. f**k knows how much it'd be to go right accross the other side of town.
Buying a cheap runabout car makes far more sense than using public transport in most parts of our third world nation.

Yes, that Freedom Piss Pass is a very worthy little credit card looking object. I don't worry about mpg or fuel costs anymore. I might even buy myself a car with a V12 for the heck of it.
Talking about Third World and stupidity. The council are spending thousands of pounds on upgrading the footpaths through our park. They were pretty perfect IMO. But the adjacent roads are full of pot holes. How fucking daft is that? Now I can't take a short cut through the park to the tube station.

Got the car back today. Perfect job. I'll drive to work tomorrow.
London Transport has been a shambles.
Sunday, the District line was buggered. I had to catch a cab to a Picadilly line station to get into town and see the grandchildren. Car was in the bodyshop.
Tuesday, (1) Bus I was on got a flat tyre, (2) got stuck on the Jubilee line and had to walk along the tracks at 10 pm.
Today, Wednesday, at 4.30 pm, the Central line broke down. I had to catch this line to get to North Acton so that I could collect my car. Eventually I did!
Thursday, tomorrow, is another day!!!!
At least I did not have to pay for my transportation: a small blessing.
-
Asker
Wait until next week, you will not be able to move in London. Don't know how far away you live from Westminster area but you can bet all cars and people will be checked more than once by our officious constabulary.

It doesn't really matter as ASker is off to the do on Friday

Not flipping likely. I'll go for the inevitable divorce. Like father like son, like mother like son ........
Do you think Grandma will buy them a Mercedes S Class?

Thursday, today: Drove to work on the A40 (Westway) through London for the first time since the January 3. They imbeciles have dropped the speed limit from 50 mph to 30 mph. No one was driving at 30 mph and neither did I. It's a motorway and it is dangerous driving at 30 mph!
