Title: How to remove throttle body on AGG engine (Simos)?
Post by: invame on 04 April 2011, 16:03
Hi,

According to Haynes if it's an AGG engine it uses a Simos system and I'm supposed to remove a quarter of the engine coolant before removing two of the hoses that are attached to the throttle body. Is this necessary or is there a workaround?

Any comments or suggestions much appreciated.

Take the throttle body off leaving the hoses coneected, pull it up as high as you can, slip one hose off, bend the end over and put a cable tie round it (not to tight, just to hold the hose folded) and then the same with the other.

if youve got two brake hose clamps you can do it with those too

Thanks for the reply. That seems reasonable enough. I actually only want to clean the throttle body. Do you think it would be enough to just disconnect the air ducting on one side whilst leaving the body in place?

I parked on a kerb so the air hose end of the throttle body was lowest, took the pipe off, and sprayed a load of carb cleaner etc into body, with a rag underneath. Because it was parked at an angle it all ran out (rather than pouring into the car). Did a quick wipe around inside / on the butterfly valve. Then started it (mine started like a bag of sh*t first time, but cleared up when revved). Then turning throttle by hand I did a squirt or two by hand with engine running to clear out any remaining stuff further in. Cleaned/re-attatched pipe, then ragged it round the block a few times (may not be needed - but felt good :P).

Worked like a dream. Don't know if it's the right way, but it worked for meTM. Terms and conditions apply. May contain traces of nuts.

I might do that then. I've had a couple of throttle related errors come up on vag-com. If it doesn't help clear them I might give it the full monty and see where I go from there.

Cheers for the input.
