ever since ive own my mk3 golf gti 8v ( about 2 years) ive had a hot engine smell that will come though the cars air vents when stationary. when im moving again i cant smell anything. ive told my garage about this but didn't find nothing etc. today i had a 10 min burst on a dual carriage way to come off to a b road which had traffic lights. while waiting there saw a abit of smoke coming from my bonnet then blue smoke came though my vents. i opened all my windows/ sunroof and closed off the vents completely. i pulled over down the road to check if the engine was on fire but nothing so poodeled home. other people have commented on my car how it "smells hot" if ive just pulled up somewhere and now this. i think this could be exhaust related as it now sounds a lower/ loader tone all the time. but how would a crack/hole or bad gasket in exhaust or manifold come though the cabin fresh air vents? temp stayed at 90 unless that's faulty. i will take it to garage monday, but thought id would ask for ideas whats wrong first. im hoping its exhaust related and not engine buggered.
thanks,
liam

As per your other thread, check all the breather hoses.
