Title: vr6 oil temp to hot?
Post by: tweed on 02 April 2011, 12:14
oil temp at 60mph is 96. 70mph it's 98. boot the car and it goes to 106 but straight back down to 98 when cruising.
water is always at 70  something ain't right here.
Can anyone help me with this.

oil level is fine. It had rebuilt bottom end and new head gasket 4000 miles ago.
and If I turn heaters on, temp drops to 94 but I shouldn't have to do that.

it's a 95 mk3 with 81000 miles
Cheers tweed

Mine gets up to 116 mate, but my water does go 3/4 when it is this hot.

Are water pumps one speed, guessing they are.

just used to gti's I guess. I knew the vr6 would run hotter but didn't take much to get it to 100.

water is low. But the front arch liner's are taken out so I guess that will make it a bit cooler.
Well I'm happy now  Thanks for the fast reply dude's

water pump speed is related to engine speed as it's driven by a belt from the cranck.

temp should sit dead center of the gague if it dosen't thermostat isint quite right.
