WEll yesterday started car drove about a mile and it started to back fire then just went completely dead would roll for about 30 seconds with nothing at all wouldn't start from dipping clutch only way it would go again would be to turn the key off and on and would go fine for a min or 2 then same story again all the way home then started this morning and was fine any 1 got any ideas what could cause this thanks David

Hall sender/dizzy? Have you had a timing light on it to see if its still advancing/ retarding? Jus a thought, could be a number of things I suppose...

AVe checked both fuel pumps, wiring, relays dizzy isn't anymore than a year old the problem isn't constant just some days seems to be with no warning something ave noticed is the rev gauge kind of bounces up and down sometimes without the car actualy reving if you know what I mean lol am stuck I think lol ?
MIght as well ask while am on here their is quite a lot of vibration on my front end at idle is this normal thanks

That doesn't sound normal to me, have you checked the engine mounts?

I know to check the front 1 but others I don't how would I do so ? WIll I check if front mount is tight ? THanks

Bouncing rev counter sounds dizzy/coil related to me. Esp with random cutting out.. Just because its not old doesn't mean its working, I've had a few pattern parts fail prematurely.. Have you had dizzy cap off to check for a leaky oil seal inside?

YIp had it off and yes had a little oil inside not a lot but cleaned off anyway so does this mean new dizzy ?
Also on the mount situation looks like its 1 of the back mounts likely the gear box one is this fairly easy to change or a garage job

Well that may well be your problem.. Maybe try cleaning it and the plug with electrical switch cleaner spray or similar, and see if it temporarily cures it.. There is a guide to replacing the seal (if it is that) on here or cgti I think..

THOt I would up date my problems lol it wasn't a mount away it was a head light clip causing the lights to move about when engine was on making me think their was more vibration than their actually was so that problem is cured . ANd as for the cutting out problem changed fuel pump relay and cured the problem got a new coil ordered cause I thot it was that so al change that also
