Hi to all,
great site, impressed .....as my subject says I have a late Mk1 (1991) black Sportline convertible. Its in really good condition and was looked after, but there are a few cosmetic things needed doing. Two of them are a new hood and a new carpet front and back....so I was looking for a good place(s) to get these as don't know of any places in ireland that do them, so any advice would be mucho appreciated?
I will post pics as soon as I get my camera back from wherever I lost it!!
Cheers,
DAVE

Welcome to the site matey, there's a few other sportline owners on here. Carpets are a bit harder to come by but I've just had a new mohair hood put on mine and I got it from these www.soft-tops.co.uk It says mohair ones are ?260 + VAT but tell them you were quoted ?199 + VAT which I was originally from a coach trimmer and he let me have it for that, worth a try. Apart from e-bay these are the cheapest hoods that I've seen. Any questions about the hood I got fitted etc just ask. There's these too but these are a lot more expensive ---> http://www.autohoods.co.uk/list_volkswagen.htm

Cool, cheers,
Are the carpets not made by a third party manufacturer, like the hoods? Thats a bummer as mine obviously got wet and really stink!
As regards the hood....how well did it fit? Because I was going to source it and get a guy to fit it for me, but just don't want the guy saying" mmm, well the hood you gave me took 8 months to fit as it wasn't great, so now you owe me the deeds to your house"! you know the usual!
Cheers,
DAVE
ps :Your van rocks!

I don't know anywhere that does mk1 carpets but ring these chaps Newton Commercial on 01728 832880 or visit www.newtoncomm.co.uk They don't do them just yet but there was a paragraph in the Golf+ mag in January's issue asking people to ring them if they wanted new ones and if enough people rang they were looking to do them if the demand was there, worth a try, they might be doing them now.
I'm happy with the hood, it fits nicely, looks new and it can be fitted in a day or so by a good coachtrimmer. I also got the lining changed too and I'm not entirely happy about the lining, that is nowhere near as good as the original but it's on the inside and maybe after a while it will loosen up a bit and look ok.
Thanks for the comment on the van.
If you need to know anything else about the hood etc give us a shout.

welcome to the forum matey

Thanks a mill,
Just ordered it for ?199+vat.......so I owe you a pint!! Although postage is around ?40...so it still worked out cheaper than the list price inc delivery. My roof liing should polish up with some elbow grease, so I'll leave that for now, just have to visit the gym for a couple of weeks before attempting the big clean!
I know Newton alright as I have 2 mini's and got replacement carpet for my Mk1, was on the website but didn't see any VW section, I might ring them though.
Thanks for the help so far.....just proves how well forums actually work.
Cheers for the welcome

Feck ! You don't mess about do you ! Hope it's ok for you, if it's a slight consolation I had to pay ?10 delivery anyway so it's only ?30 difference to Dublin, so not bad.
By the way, you ordered the mohair one yeah ?

Hi All.......
I know its been ages but I eventually got my roof, looks good so far, but have to get it fitted next week .....then at long last I can start the work on the interior.
Just so you know.......(and maybe its old news by now) Newton Commercial are doing a MK1 Black carpet set from now on....they also do Mats/rear load area mats/bonnet felt/gear lever gaiter/ and the sound deadening kit.
The price of the carpet is £163.32 inc VAT and the sound deadening kit is free. Beats the scrapyard!!
Anywho.....I'll hopefully be posting pics soon of at least an "on the road golf"

Nice one Dave, I was trying to think who it was that was doing the mk1 carpets recently and I couldn't remember even though I posted the URL in this post !
Bit of a tip, when you get the hood fitted make sure that they do the guide ropes in the hood quite tight otherwise you'll keep get a flapping in your ears ! I had to get mine tightened up the other week as it was doing my head in but now I'm well happy with it.
-
Aahh......Cheers for that, I'll be sure to mention it next week. Really looking forward to getting it on the road soon.......weather is getting better every day!

Hey All,
Well a lil update......
New carpets should arrive next week incl underlay...(mmm new car smell!) Seats were pro cleaned yesterday, so again smell nice! Last will be the hood being fitted. Also fitted new.... oil+filter/plugs/air filter/fuel filter......but its still a bit missy every now and then...cant seem to get the points out from under the dizzy, is there a knack in removing them? just misses when you put full throttle on from idle and then its sweet again....not sure what it could be....so if anyone has any ideas?
Anyway here are the pics.....

Nice one matey keep the pics coming. As for your question, I'd suggest starting a thread in the garage section on this forum as more of the technical people on here will look in there first.
