Title: Sale advice
Post by: savvasa on 31 March 2011, 09:59
Morning all,

With my first child on the way the decision has been made (by the boss) that I have to sell my GTI  and get something a bit more "family based".

I was just wondering if someone could give me an idea of what they are selling for at the moment, the prices on autotrader and alike, are fine, but the advertised price - in my experience - is generally quite far from the actual sale price!

Specs:
MK5 GTI
06 plate
62K miles
Leather
Sat Nav
Auto
All the other GTI standar gear (auto lights, washers)
No mods
1 previous owner
Rear left wheel has a slight kerbing on it (nothing a small amount of elbow grease wont sort out)
Usual stone chips etc, but generally a very well looked after car.
Cam belt, and coil pack, changed by VW.

errrr... cant think of anything else to add.

Any advice would be great! (or if anyone is interested!)

Thanks

A lot of the Golfs on Autotrader have done a lot of miles, yet they are still up for around 5k. I'd bang it on there for 5.5k to be honest, I am sure people would offer you on it. Could always bang it on the bay as well ?

5.5?? Man that would suck! I'd be better off keeping hold of it and paying out on the fuel.

That was a rough guess to be totally honest mate. A lot of Golfs I have been looking at are 04/54 1.4/1.6 FSE, low milage ect for 4.5k.

Keep an eye on AutoTrader budd.

Sorry I couldnt be much help.

Is it 5 or 3 door?
If it's 5 then keep it.

Its a 5 door Eg, the only problem is that the wife currently has an 04 Yarris, and neither of us are happy with her driving that as the daily car, and the Golf would cost way too much to run when all she will be doing is popping to the shops and to her dads, both short journeys.

Also, we were in a crash last year in which my BMW was hit from behind, pushed across incoming traffic and totally written off. So the safety aspect of the Yarris is a massive issue.

Is it 5 or 3 door?
If it's 5 then keep it.

Why would a few short journeys cost a lot?
They might if you had a diesel and clogged up the DPF every few weeks just pottering about.

:grin:What planet are you on?

I agree that £9.5k would be a good price to put it up at, with a £9k minimum target.

To be fair, other than insurance, using it for a low mileage runabout shouldn't cost you too much plus you could have fun in it when the need arose.

As EW says, DO NOT buy a modern diesel with a DPF to save money on fuel if you are doing short journeys. It will cost far more in repairs. If you need to downgrade, see what your dealer will give you against a Golf mk6 TSI match.

I agree with EW (for once!). Unless you're doing major miles, you will be better off keeping it as you will lose out twice if you part-ex it against another car.

Also, diesels take forever to warm-up and have pretty crap mpg when cold anyway, regarless of the dpf issue.

HTH.

I have recently been looking at a lot of golfs and ended up with a 55 plate gt tdi, While looking though, I did not once see a Gti that age for anywhere close to 5 grand otherwise i would have it

£5.5k? lmfao!  You should be able to get £9.5 to £10k for it.  But dont sell it, its still a v practical car especially in 5 door.  Keep it mate!
