Ok on a wee bit of a schedule here and running out of time for my MOT deadline, which is friday.
I have deleted the side repeaters and suspect passenger side is broken which is causing the front one not to flash and rear one to flash quickly?
Changed the bulbs around and it's still the same.
Headlight on Drivers side won't work on dim dip. Works on full beam, swapped the fuses and bulbs but still the same (fuse 1/2)
Lastly, I know that headlights are H4 and H1 respectively but what size are the side repeater bulbs/ sidelight bulbs.
Cheers in advance

Have you tried another flasher unit.

Flasher unit? I'm probably being thick but what is that/ where is it situated?
It was working before

Ah, I see. Any idea what number it is? just in case I can't find the bit of paper with the info on it.
Bought new bulbs all round as a precaution as otherwise I know I'll end up there @ 11pm going "arghhhh, need bulbs".

Cheers bud, I've replaced all the 10A fuses with shiny new ones. Pretty impressive that the originals are still there after 20yrs

I thought side repeaters were a requirement if car is older than '85/86?

I thought side repeaters were a requirement if car is older than '85/86?
Having read the MOT regulations and interpretated them as "if they are fitted they have to work", as there isn't a space for them I'm hoping that it won't be necessary as this is the 1st MOT without them. Worst case I'll stick them on the side as the wiring is still there. I may yet change my mind and fit early spec Mk3 sides as I'm hoping to fit an ABF in it.
We'll see

Na definitely a requirement. I'm certain of it... Good luck
-
Mine failed without them,I had to buy the lenses and get them working again
-
They are a requirement UNLESS you can see the front repeaters front the side... ie they wrap around the bumper.

Ok so I have bowed to popular opinion and as I'm not going to be there when it get's MOT'd and have taped them to the wings. :undecided: Who know's, I do have amber lights for them too. If it ends up being an issue I think I will, as mentioned fit the mk3 ones. Haven't seen it done either which would be quite cool too.
Sorted all my electrical issues, or more accurately I sorted most of them and Robert came up and sorted the really difficult one. Turned out to be badly corroded/ butchered loom to blame. Will be replacing it for an uprated item in non too distant so just want it through the MOT.
Fingers crossed
-
I haven't got them on mine and mine never fails for it...... :smug:
-
all depends on tester
-
^ yeah was guna say if you are "friendly" with someone they would let that slide. Most coppers probs wouldnt know either I guess.
-
i know testers that aint bothered about emissions.. sound levels.. quite a few niggly bits but ive known them years.. BUT i would still sort any problems they tell me out as theres no point him passing me on emissions and me never sorting the problem out..

After staying up till 1am on a school night, having to do a cross town dash to borrow a wheel nuts as x2 went walkies in the garage I dropped it off at the Test station. Will find out tonight.
Spoke to a mate of a mate who is an MOT tester locally and he said if he didn't see them then he wouldn't look for them. So we'll see how it goes as I tidied up the wiring and tucked them back in.
-
did it pass? Ive got my MOT on the 27th May, well thats when it runs out, checked the last one and the only major thing was the read drivers wheel had a dent in it but ive since replaced the wheels anyway
Fingers crossed there wont be anything major to do

Failed
Nearside front indicator Missing
Offside front indicator Missing
Fuel pump insecure
Sill incompletely welded
Brake pedal spongy
Rear nearside wheel bearing excessive play
Rear offside wheel bearing excessive play
So all those people who say you can get away without having side indacators are talking bollox. Unless it's pre '87
Going in for a retest now i've sorted the wheel bearings, they were just a bit loose. Secured the fuel pump with some stainless cable ties for the short term. Sill was left over from the last guy who attacked the car, sorted now. I've been busy reinstating the indicators, but went for my mk3 ones as i'll fit the ABF too.

I've subsequently ground down and filled them and they do look a lot better. Will look better yet when I have the smoked ones in there but that's all for now...

Hate to say I told you so  Going by the pictures you've put a lot of work in, which should see her through the re-test
-
Hard luck...... the rest doesn't look too bad but fook me, effort with the indicators but alas you can weld so it looks like you sorted that out!
Good luck with the retest,
-
The mk3 ones look good, will be even better in a smoked finish.

Yeah that was talking to a an MOT tester too but I'd rather be able to put it in anywhere and be legal than have to know the bloke at the MOTO station.

Cheers dude, yeah was a bit gutting cutting out the smoothed wings i'd done but it has given me the opertunity to make the wings fit better, which should make lif easier when it comes to respray time

That's already in progress as the orange ones are too hideous for words, i'll pop up a few new pic's when i get them off my phone.

You had welded up smoothed wings, and they still pulled you on it?! Gutted!! I'd have understood if you had big holes there and they were blatantly missing, but smoothed off, you'd expect it to be ok... Fuel pumps simple enough, if its snapped studs or something you can clean up where they were and re-weld a bit of 8/10mm stud to hang it off..

Yeah I was a bit gutted about that and that was how I interpretated. My mechanic guy said I'd done a great job and he hadn't even noticed that they weren't there. It was that particular MOT teste (deliberate spelling error) , he apparently went off and got his book to double check. Suspect the fact that the car is part primer may have played a part in it, made them look closer.
Not too sure about the fuel pump as it looks like it's been at the bottom of the sea for 20yrs. Secured with s/s cable ties for time being till I track down a mk3 one.
