Title: Engine differences
Post by: Kus on 28 March 2011, 16:51
I want to know the differences in engines..

Now i cant afford a 130 or 150 bhp model so what would i need to do to a 115 bhp to make it the same as the 150bhp engine.

Obviosily a remap is a good start but what can i do after that. Id be aiming for 200 horses.

Cheers Kus

Turbo
Intercooler
Injectors?
Not sure if you need a new ECU and MAF too  :undecided:

In all honesty, what you'd spend tuning and insuring the 115bhp you just as well buy the 150 model as all you'd need is a remap to push it past 190bhp

Agreed but like I said when you factor in costs of bits and insurance its nigh on the same

By the time you have spent that much you would be better to buy a 150

And youd still have to insure it as a 150.....

Basically just buy a 150 to save hassle as either way its going to cost the same!

a complete engine is going to cost you £800+ add that to the purchase price of the car and its not worth it

No i wouldnt insurance it as a 150

if you cant afford to insure it you shouldnt be driving it

Get a 115, i was looking for a 130 but they were silly money, got my 115 for £2500, got a remapand some other bits to help and now it will piss all over a stock 150 tdi.

Insurance is a fair bit cheaper aswell for me on a 115 than a 150. I've declared all my mods and i'm paying £620 fully comp, thats 3 years no claims, and 3 points

I made a rough one for £2.00 to see if its actually worth buying one and my conclusion is no. My car isnt sending anything through into the container

how do the clutches cope on a 150 remapped?
Title: Re: Engine differences
Post by: Steve_PD on 31 March 2011, 09:01
Mines done around 70k since remap and 144k total on the original clutch.  The clutch is fine but the flywheel has started knocking  :lipsrsealed:

Thats impressive! Would you say you were enthusiastic with the right pedal? I was gonna change the clutch first but might just get it remapped then
Title: Re: Engine differences
Post by: tech1889 on 31 March 2011, 16:39
get it remapped and change clutch when it needs changing.. you never know it might last for years then you saved money or it might go quickly then your more out of pocket your choice lol

I dont hang around...
Get it mapped first then worry about the clutch. Your more than likely blow a intercooler pipe first :lipsrsealed:
