Hey all! New to the forum but I've just done the smartest thing in the world and finally got myself a golf!!
Basically its a 1.4 8v, slow as hell I'm guessing with 60 bhp but I've got big plans with little knowledge on the golfs (even tho I work for audi!!!!)
Would really appreciate some advise guys :)
-I've decided to go for a 2 litre 8v engine, is this a basic swap? Any complications I may come across with the wiring ect?
-Rear disk convertion and bigger front brakes, which rear axel would work and again any complications?
Obviously going from 60 to 135 bhp is a pretty big increase, any suggestions as to anything I will need to do (other than suspension, got some coilovers the other day)
Again thanks a bunch guys, ill get a project thread up soon!!!

Easy, sell it and buy a GTI.
With s/h values it is not worth doing the conversion, starting with a 1.4 means everything needs changing and I mean everything even the main loom is different to a GTI.
Also a 2.0 8v is 115bhp.

I can't afford the gti insurance..
I'm more than willing to do the work, its all good fun!
Anybody got any advise that helps me do what I want????

Bad thing to say on here mate. Everything here is all nice and legal.
As said though, there is alot of work involved in swapping these engines. Anyway, if you aint telling the insurance then why not get a 1.8T 150bhp.

Sorry, I thought we were talking mk4's here.
Still, why not go for the 2.0 16v or VR6 if youre gonna do it.

Being honest have you checked the insurance for a 1.4 to 2.0 swap, it will not be cheap.
-
Tell your bloody insurance company if you do an engine swap!

Let's re-explain my plans.. This Is my second car, I brought it for next to nothing of a family friend who just hasnt used it in so long (sucker for a bargain) and literally has too much money.. the only intension is having a dub project, I don't care if it takes me 2 years.. Mainly as just something to do,just trying to get some background information but can't find any anywhere so can someone please give me some??
As for insurance, its near impossible at 18 or 19,20 or even 21 to insure anything good.. My 1.25 zetec s replica fiesta is 185 a month!
This is gonna be a bit of fun to build and a challenge to take on, am I a fool for looking forward to it? :o
-
Nah, you may as well go for it then mate, but Id still choose a different engine than the 2.0 8v.
-
Also why has everyone assumed I'm not going to tell the insurance?
Does nobody think if I'm caught taking off at a bit of speed and the police pulled me over I'd get away with "its only a 1.4 with 60bhp? I know someone who killed they're passenger in a conversion.. He's in prison.. I'm not that stupid.
-
Someone plase give me a guide and advise to what engine then? I think the vr6 is a bit big and probs more expensive right?
What do I need to change other than brakes and suspension?
-
this seriously isn't worth doing, I have a 1.4 (I drive at the moment) and an 8v gti (kind of project until insurance drops off a bit), I considered doing a swap too but pretty much every part of the car is different apart from the chassis, you would pretty much have to do a complete chassis swap. The brakes and suspension on the 1.4 is sh!t, and so is pretty much everything else about it I am afraid.
If you want a project car just do what I am doing and buy a GTI to begin with and tweak/restore that for a bit until your insurance is cheaper. They are so cheap at the moment, you could pick up a half decent one for as little as £300.

Go ahead with it i would say im doing it this weekend to a friends car if you know nothing about golfs then this is the way to do it its all part of the fun i say good luck and let me know how it goes

I think buying a gti would be the wisest thing to do..
Just make this one look sweet, sell the fiesta and buy a 2.0 8v and start on that!
What's everyones view on matt black?
