For a wee while now I have noticed increased road noise along with a sound similar to the boot lid not being closed properly.
However when I check the boot the lid it is firmly closed.
In the recent publication of What Car April issue there is an interesting article on a long term Golf GTTD. The reporter has also noticed his Golf had increased road noise. The reporter put this down to the type of tyre being used so put the Golf into be fitted with new tyres of a different brand.
The reporter was shown his back tyres which were heavily worn on the inside and hardly any wear on the outside. The reporter was told to get his suspension alignment checked.
Apparently it turned out all his wheels were pointing in a different direction which was the root cause of the problem.
After reading this I went out and checked my tyres and there was the tell tail signs. The inside of my rear tyres are nearly bald while the outside has hardly any wear.
I should point out that I have upgraded alloys for summer use and original standard alloys for winter use. So the tyres have not been on long. I have just found out this this weekend so have not been in touch with VAG yet.
What car has asked anyone with this problem should contact them by email.

Just been out and checked my GT, can't see anything. My 17 inch tyres in the shed look like a nice even wear, the 18's on do too. Can't say I've noticed any excessive road noise either. Hope you get the issue sorted.

what tyres??

This was a common problem on the mk5 Golf (FWD ones anyway  ) which shares the same suspension and floorpan (and just about everything else).

The rear tyres on my Touran which is based on the mk5 golf have done this, mind you ive had it six years and done 30,000 miles and still have the orginal Dunlop tyres on the back, when it had its MOT the dealer mentioned it but said it was down to tyre inflation. :undecided:

That's interesting so thanks.
Not too serious but for sure this affects the enjoyment of the handling thankfully easily corrected. Will keep the thread updated with unfolding events.

My tyres are all wearing even and they aren't noisey.

Mine seem OK

Hello Ian,
Nice to know you are around and don't stay away for so long again .
Just checked my tyres. Perfectly even wear all round. Tread depth 7.5 mm both rears, 6.5 mm both fronts. Mileage 3300 miles only.

Had this problem with my Leon,
Had the rears laser aligned, no issues after then :)
One guy at the Seat garage said his were so bad, they actually replaced them under warranty!
