I just dropped by here to see what's what, but I can't say I recognise many names. Anyhow, for those who don't know me, I was one of the first owners of a Mk6 GTI back in August 2009. I sold her last Christmas and bought this 2005 XKR for just over half what I got for the Golf. Bit of a no-brainer really.
The Jag is a completely differet beast: 400hp, but not nearly as chuckable or nippy as the GTI. Looks the part, though, with its 20" rims and wide stance. The big plus, IMHO, is the RWD. The GTI is a fantastic car, but I just couldn't use the power often enough (I had a 275hp remap, maybe that was the problem).
Anyway, here's a quick pic taken this afternoon in the spring sunshine. Enjoy your GTIs

How you doing Frog?
I thought you were giving your car away with the house at one point? Did that fall through?

Hello Paul. My fellow pedant.
Nice to see you bought a very fast cramped car.
You should have upgraded to an Aston Martin.
I must jealously admit, it looks really beautiful. Congratulations.
Keep posting here PLEASE as we need some of the old blood back.
I hope all is well with you and your beautiful wife is also well and not with child!
I think the Jag should rope in a mistress.

Lol, good to be back. Don't worry, no more kids  The XKR is indeed ridiculously cramped for its huge size (longer than my Transit van), but I love its old-school charm. I bought it in Norwich and am hoping to sell it on in a couple of years for a profit and then upgrade to a DB9 for my 50th birthday

Looks like a cracker.
Are you trying to say you got the XKR for around £12k?
(my head trying to calculate about £20k sale for a GTI then a 'little over half' ontop!)

SPAM!!!
Dont know who you are... never heard of ya!!!
only kidding of course froggie!!

Nice motor Frogster. Glad to see the wheel is on the proper side (admit it, that was the real problem with the GTI wasn't it? ).
I expect that a huge and powerful car like that would be a pain in the arse on UK roads but well at home on the French N roads. Either way it's very nice indeed (not as nice as a Golf with Interlagos though!).

Welcome back.

Welcome back, love the Jag.
-
Nice to see you again Mr Frog the ex-mod

I can see the attraction of the Jag. It's gorgeous and I've seriously thought about selling my Mk2 to finance an old Jag, perhaps an XJS. Just for a laugh!!
Meanwhile I'm still loving my July 09 GTi Frog - a remap is next on the agenda when I've cleared the credit card a bit.

I love the Jag. A very sexy motor
Nice to hear from you again.

Hi there! Love the car.
Rolfe.

Thanks for all your kind words. Nice to hook up with you all again.
I shamelessly exploited the economic hardship in the UK and paid just £13K for the Jag in January. It has huge road presence over here, where everyone pootles around in diesel Renaults, but its not all sweetness and light: its mega cramped inside (for its size), it guzzles fuel and the satnav looks as if it's powered by a Sinclair Spectrum, especially after my lovely LED RNS510

Looks good though
