I've got a 9a engined golf mk2, What spark plug should I get, a standard 9a has like 135bhp, mine will have about 160bhp maybe more after its been mapped, so should I get spark plugs from a more powerful engine, say the abf? or just get normal mk2 gti 16v plugs. Getting them inj a sec so could do with a rapid response please!
It has a kr head on it.

I think standard plugs will be fine.

i likes the NGK iridiums.
but for first start and when your pissing about with cold start and first bit of mapping ive taken to useing 2nd hand plugs, once its somewhere near swap in the iridiums

KR cams + WUR mod?

he's got megasquirt.
the first few starts are brilliant at f**king plugs up when your learning it. as quite often you'll end up shoveling fuel in then once it's going it's often running in a sub optimal manner for a few starts an you'll be pissing about with the cold start lots it'll soot the plugs and not get chance to burn them clean.
I knackerd 2 sets tuneing my ITB'ed motor, mostly getting the hot and cold starts right. mine wanted loads more fuel enrichment than expected to start but then less than expected to run, hence some very sooty plugs

Cheers danny, keeping mine atm, gunna try and clean them a bit, yer they are caped in soot! It as got the cold start all ready done on it by the ecu builder, all I need to do is finish the map off from 3600rpm, so would of thought it would of started straight away. Going to get out my injectors to see if they are actually working. I can hear fuel swirling around though. And it primes. If theres fuel then I'll check my compression.
Or should I try and tweek the cold start. After finding fuel first. :undecided:

get a feel for how it runs first before you piss with it.
btw tip for cleaning plugs.... blowtorch dose a much better job than a brush but takes a bit longer

Cheers will do. Obv getting fuel as otherwise they wouldn't be all black from unburnt fuel.
