Title: Hiding wiring in engine bay.....

Hi all
Ok. I am short of money so have cancelled the insurance on the car, meaning I can pull it completely apart lol.
What I wanna know, is all these peeps with immaculate bays, how did you hide the wiring and make it smooth???
Any info would be great!!!!

false walls and sides of bay.. wiring through chassis legs.. its a very very hard thing to do properly and very expensive as lots of cutting and welding to do.. awesome when done properly though  :smiley:

hmmmm, maybe tidying as best and as neatly as possible is the plan then lol!

what good degreasers are out there for cleaning the block etc...?

autosmart G101 buddy.. or megs engine degreaser.. or gunk engine degreaser  :smiley:

Yer just tidying is my plan on the mk2 as standard they can look a mess  :smiley: I looked into no wires in engine bay and its just very very time consuming and expensive the amount of custom parts got extreme.. plus if a wire gets chaffed and breaks your pretty screwed lool

thats what i thought!! wiring problems are an arse at the best of times :D
might paint it all back!!! or even car colour.... but needs to be temp resistant...

the paint in the bay dont get that hot tbh mate.. vw paint the whole car using the same paint and it aint flaked by now lol... im painting my mk2 bay at the moment and stripping the old crap off is a bloody long winded process lol

do ya thing i could mock up fibre glass panels to hide wiring, or does it melt at temperature??

fibre glass would be fine but how would you secure it and dont forget fibreglass doesnt like to flex it just cracks lol...

from what ive read some have false bulkheads... and either side of engine bay like a false floor.. As much as possible moved to the rear so battery washer bottle any thing else if you can lol... and just smooth it all together

As Tech said, fit the battery and washer bottle in the boot for starters, then remove all unused brackets etc.

Take front end off an lower on a jack then use 2 people to lift and move

It's something i will be tackling once my new engine is built.
I was thinking of cheating a little and making my own loom/pipe runs.Fabbing up a polished thin wall stainless pipe and routing stuff inside.Then go about moving bits and bobs.Instead of relocating the washer bottle i was going to remove it and use something like a polished oil catch tank and modifiying it and relocating it somewhere in the bay.
Im looking forward to it tbh.(Apart from removing the old sealant with a heat gun and wire wheel! :sick:

Doubt I will relocate anything i may do similar to what your doing, end product being more presentable!
