Hi all, just to say I am recently a new owner of GTi with DSG box, love it, but just have one question hope someone can help. Sorry maybe bit rubbish with the description.. Anyway, when its parked up and i need to move off, when i press the brake so I can shift to D it seems to make few noises, and not the noise of the gear switching between the modes. Is that normal?
-
Shouldn't make a noise. What kind of noise is it?
Clunking?
Whining?
Grating?
-
I would say quiet clicking noise, but noticeable.. thought it sound that made like the disengage of something to allow me to switch modes..? Driving seems to be fine..?
-
OK, it helps if i was more accurate.. right its actually when you turn the key, there's light clicking sound, there's no sound when i press brake and change the mode..!
-
Doesn't sound like it is anything terminal. I've heard a few nasty sounds in the past from various DSG cars, but this just sounds like you have oversensitive hearing. The 'box can make a slight clicking on engagement, but as long as the transition is smooth and there is no jerkiness in the drivetrain, then you should be okay.

Thanks for your opinion, i hope its not much too maybe as its new car i'm overly cautious.. DSG is great to drive though. One last question driver and passenger door has red light near the bottom, but does not light up when i open the door, is it case of changing a bulb/is it a reflector? S'pose i can live with it not working if its a big job.
-
It is a reflector for oncoming cars - just in case you open it as they get close.
-
push the gear lever to the left , from D to -/+
then paddle it into the lowest gear you can.
and put your foot down until you are scared.
then stop whinging about a little click or two from the lock out solenoids.
the dsg is just the best thing to happen to car since electronic ignition.

 cool thanks guys for the reassuring words.. yeh the DSG is fun to drive..
cheers hurdy, as would've not been good if attempted to rip door panels out thinking its a faulty bulb when its only a reflector.!
