Title: Electroplating parts. door lock pins - Where to find replacement plastics?
Post by: Mr Blue on 23 March 2011, 22:43
sup!

Has anyone had their door locks and door pins electroplated to the OEM gold finish?
I'm tempted to send all mine off. Door locks, boot, bonnet, screws as they look sh!t.

Also if its possible to buy new pin plastic? If so where from and whats it called? (yellow bit)

As you can see the base plates in those are poor quality and have sharp edges. Not strong enough and my doors need regular adjustment. Now want fresh OEM'ness ftw.

Any help on where to get that yellow stuff from would be great

If you plan to do quite a few items have you considered buying a plating kit?

Zinc passivating is what you need, I have a load of bits and pieces done at a local platers, spring plates, nuts, bolts, washer.  They cleaned, blasted and plated a big box full of stuff for £30 worth of beer money.

Just reflection from the flash, they're quite large flat pieces.  Been on the car over a year now and it's still intact.

They do it in different colours, some refer to it as gold and others places yellow.  But they're the same finish.

This is where I had my parts done
http://www.electroplaters.uk.com/about.htm

Won't be local to you but it gives you an idea of what is available.  I'd collect a bunch of other items together so you get better value for money, the place I took mine kinda charge per box full irrespective of what's in there.
