Hi, I haven't managed to get the pics sorted yet of the new C Reg - sorry.
I have one small query:-
The seats are slightly loose in the runners, is there anything that can be done?? anybody got any (simple) solutions?
Cheers
-
What you need to do is replace the white plastic clips that fit to the legs on the seat which slide in the runners.
i cant remember the part numbers but i think they are on this site some where, just do a search. Or take a look at the bits them selves as the numbers should be moulded on them. You can get them from VAG or GSF.

from german swedish french (www.gsfcarparts.com)
Part# Description Price
88530 SEAT RUNNER CLIP-OUTER ?1.10
-
Or pay a little extra and go over to the dark side of ebay.

OK, once I've got the plastic things, how do I fit them.
Please make any intructions you have very simple, think as though you are aiming them at a monkey.
Thanks
-
Well if your seat is wobbly then it sounds as if your old clips have already fallen out. In that case you just need to slide the new ones over the foot of the chair frame that goes into the floor runners. Its really really simple! The feet are accessed at the back of the chair, tilt it forward and you should see what i mean. Its just the bit where the chair connects to the car. Sorry for taking the piss but you did say your a monkey!?

^^^PMSL
Simple enough!!!lol
-
I have now received the new clips, well 4 actually, there are two pairs which differ slightly. can somebody tell me how to fit them please, I don't have a clue.
Thanks
-
You cant be serious! It really is a simple job, have a look at your chair from the back where it joins the car. You must be able to see the runners. The clips just slide onto the chair legs that fit in the runners. Have a bash you cant go wrong.
-
Oh I am serious.
I'll have a look later today, I'm just confused as to why there are 2 differnt types I've been sent, or do I need all 4?
-
inner & outer clips differ.
if it makes it easier then take the whole seat out
with the door open have a look under the seat. you will see a small bolt at the front(where the adjuster slides back n forth) which prevents the seat sliding right back. take this out then slide the seat as far back as possible. you can then lift the whole seat out of the car!!
-
Well there are two runners per chair so that makes your 4 clips. And they are probably slightly different in shape for each side or the chair.
-
Right I've tried and I can't put the buggers on.
I can't see how I can slide the things onto the legs themselves without removing the legs from the runners. Then there's the issue of which clips to use where?? Like I've said there are different two pairs.
Does each leg require 2 clips meaning I only have enough clips for one seat?
You see it's never easy when I get near a car, especially something this complex - HELP.
-
take the whole seat out of the car. it is one nut to remove it all as i explained earlier
-
As gambit says, you should not need to but it may help you if y do. And its easy peasy to take the whole chair out. Please dont say y cant do that either or we may have to crown you the most spanner shy monkey ever!
-
Firstly - Gambit, I wasn't being ignorant, I had read your earlier replies, I was just making sure.
Secondly - you can't crown me 'the spanner shy monkey' as I already have the crown, sitting at home.
I'm going to take the seat out, and then if I'm following correctly, I'll need 4 clips per sear, seems a lot to me, but I'm sure I'll pull through.
I have a feeling I'll be driving around in a seatless Mk2 before the days out.
If all goes well, I'll have the pics up soon also
-
Just weld a deck chair in its place. That way you wont need any clips! Could start a new craze!
Im pretty sure you only need 2 clips per chair.
-
pull the f**k*r out and clip the clips on, with no skills at all it should take less than half an hour to do both chairs!!! whats the worst that could happen?
-
Well the floor pan could be rotten and he falls through severing an arterie and dies!
-
no worries.
yes 2 clips per seat. they clip in the back of each runner
if the worst comes to the worst i will get you a pic of the nut you need to remove to make the seat slide back!!
-
I wouldn't fall through the floor pan, the car's solid, plus for a job like this, I'll be wearing full overalls, safety gloves and goggles, so death isn't an issue.
But you see now people are telling me to fit the clips to the seat legs and other are saying the clips go in the runners, very confusing.
I know where the bolt to take the seat out is, I had that off yesterday, but then I got a clip stuck, so locked the car and walked to the pub, I've got the clip out now though.
-
going down the pub is alkways a good solution!!!
the clip bits go in the runners (i think) but its been ages since i took the seats out a golf i cant remeber exactly... and they should just slide in
-
Yeah the clips fit on the legs but the legs fit in the runners. So i suppose the clips go inbetween the legs and runners.
P.S I think this job requires a crash helmet to be worn too! And high heels!
-
^^mini skirt included in that?????
Dont think my last golf had the clip bits  :undecided:
-
Mini skirt wearing days are over I'm afraid, once you hit 30, it all goes south.
5.00 tonight, seats will be out and clips inserted - I'll try the passenger one first.
Nice to have help on such matters, just wait until I begin the engine conversion.
-
dont bother with the passenger one. its probably fine its the driver side one is the problem because there is always somebody sitting in it when being driven. unlike the passenger seat
-
Understood, but if the passenger seat is wobbly then I'd rather that be sorted also - do you not agree?
-
aye if its wobbly do it also.
-
man bobo u truely are a retard, i dont think u deserve 2 own a golf , trade it in fo a nice punto plz
-
Lol, made me laugh this thread... no offence.
-
yeah it aint rocket science is it?
-
c'mon not everybody is handy with a spanner as you may be.
-
no i wasn't trying to be nasty but it is kinda funny!! and hey we've all got to start somewhere!!
-
Right, I've put them in, very easy. Unfortunately it didn't make any difference.
I've checked where the majority of movement is and it's definitely in the runners, so I may have to try something else, unless somebody has an idea.
Another severe mechanical problem is the drivers wing mirror, it's wobbly. YES I've tightened up the screws but it make no difference, plus one of the screws is now turning along with the metal sleeve where the threads are.
Problems, problems, problems.
I await the sarcasm.
-
No sarcasm, it always easy when you have done it :) i know!!! it a few years you'll be building engines from scrap metal ;)
If the new runners did not help, why not get it in to postion and wedge it with wood, crude but effective :)
Have not a clue abot the mirror, i have never touched these! Sorry
-
with the wing mirrors you may have been a bit over enthusiastic and tightened the screws up to much and stripped the threads out (assuming you are screwing into plastic) or the meatl sleeve you are talking about has simply come unstuck from the plast and needs re glueing
-
rightey ho here we go you listening Bobo....<grin> sorry wet myself no offence intended....
VW WINGMIRRORS
I am writing this in simple terms from my experience with the above if I'm wrong sorry but I@m sure I'm not
Take the wingmirror off carefully by undoing the screws you have stripped!! then underneath the wing mirror (the bit that you don't normally see that fastens to the car) you will see a bolt, get a socket or a spanner that fits the bolt, and tighten it up until the mirror doesn't wobble anymore and in true haynes manual fashion (which you should buy) refitting is a reversal of the removal!!! :) put it back and tighten up the screws (if you can) if you can't tighten the screws up then the next few posts could be amusing crash course in tap and die sets anybody <grin>. have fun and good luck!!
-
In response.
I have already removed the outer plastic clip
Below are 2 screws, these are tight as possible, but the mirror still wobbles when the car is in motion.
So I took the cap off and removed screws to have a better look and perhaps do a bodge job, this is where the problem was encountered.
You see the screw screws into threads, these are in perfect condition, but the sleeve which holds these threads which in turn is slotted into the door now moves with the screw (explanation as best as possible).
I could try glue, but doubt this would be of sufficent strength.
-
User super glue cos its super great
-
I doub't glue will work.
Take your mirror off and have a look, you'll see what I mean (if you have the older Mk2 that is).
More advice needed.
I'm ready for a new exhaust, the owner said it was the original from new, it's a twin. I want a new one, but not one of these stupid baked bean can things. I checked at Kwik Fit and they had a normal single for £70.00, any suggestions, nothing loud though, I'm too old.
-
ring VAG and ask them for a price on the exhaust, they aint that expensive and far better quality than any rapid fit exhaust centre
when you ring VAG just ask for price of parts. you dont want them to fit it - they'll charge an arm & a leg for this
any backstreet garage can fit it for you
-
Don't go to quick git, really bad idea, you can get the complete system from VAG for around £120! £40 fitting at a guess, probabblly the quitest you will get also!
-
Right I've been on the VAG website - no use.
I've tried the number gievn on the website - 01793487700, constantly engaged.
Crikey, all I want is a nice looking exhaust at a decent price.
-
just call into your local VAG dealer
