Hi all
Have had my Ed30 DSG from new for 3 years and could be time for a change
Local dealer trying to get hold of an R for me to test drive
In the mean time, had a play with a 250 cup - brilliant car, but having doubts as to if I could ever do without DSG !
Interested to know if any Ed30 owners have had a drive of the R and what they think
Of course,I always have the option to keep my Ed 30 :undecided:

Dont even consider buying a French car , it will fall to bits load a crap between the 2 cars its like chalk and cheese!! I have driven an R and its brilliant but exepensive get a GTI and map it. The mk6 is a step up from an ED30 better cabin, smoother drive more refined.
-
Yeah, had all the warnings about getting a Renault
Will hopefully get to drive a Mk6 gti this week so looking fwd to that - will be interesting to see if its as exciting to drive as the Ed30 tho'
-
Dont get me wrong the ed30 is a very nice drive, I used to own one and loved it , now the R is in a differant league decent spec 36-38 grand but eh ho its only money
-
I am in the same box as you Ed30 coming 3 years old.Had a short drive in a Manual R20 was really nice very little road noise but i could not live without DSG.I was thinking of keeping the Ed30 but i would be worried about the DSG if i keep it i would take out Warrant.I only have 16,000 miles on my Ed30 never had any trouble with it i love it

Nothing wrong with the Renault, has had excellent reviews in all the roadtests plus a lot cheaper to buy.
Golf R is bonkers money.
-
i drove the car it is fab, But could you just buy a golf mk5 4mo and put a 30ed engine in it :D same out come

Thanks for the comments guys

The 250 Cup - no DSG and it could fall to bits (and is cramped in the back)
Even thought about keeping the ed30 and getting a re-map..
decisions,decisions :undecided:

Renaults are not as bad as they once where, also Golf mk6 has some poor built in design faults plus from some of the threads on here really poor paintwork.

There Customer service is a disgrace and the cars do fall to bits , the cabin is very cheap and brittle!! Rattles like you never heard before

I've had extended test drives in both a manual and a DSG Golf R. Lovely car and I almost went and bought the DSG one

So...
Was there a big difference between the Ed30 and R and did you feel it was worth the £30K+?
-
Yes I loved R. Very sure footed with ultimately controllable under-steer at the limit and startling off the line ability. The manual seemed very twitchy on gearshifts, but once used to it I could have happily gone back to a manual. Is it worth £30k+? Just about, and I'd take one over an S3. Pity they won't put the 2.5-5pot in it - now that would be a lovely car.

Well that's why I never went for an S3 or Golf R in the end - same engine as my Ed 30, but quite a bit heavier, so no doubt I'd be slightly disappointed with the performance.

Well, local dealer has tried to get hold of an R for me to drive from VW uk and the press office - no joy
They are offering me a drive in the Scirroco R, but I dont think that would be any use. Even if it did drive and feel the same I couldn't bring myself to crawl into the thing.
And its starting to dawn on me that the car I really want, may be the one I already have :embarassed:

Now that will make a great car an even better car.. Dont hisitate, you'd wish you done it alot sooner. Awesome an ed30 Remapped

I agree, with one proviso......I wish VW had made it a TSi with a larger turbo, rather than a slightly breathed on ED30 engine. The APR stage 3 conversion on the MKVI GTI would be my choice over an R. Probably the same price too.
