Title: New coil
Post by: emery1990 on 21 March 2011, 15:56
Anyone bought a decent ignition coil lately for a good price.? Looked on vwspares they dont have them, have them on bigboystoys at £55+, just wandering if any has got one cheaper than that?

Or can you get one from a modern car at second hand price? Not sure if it is the coil so dont want to spend mega bucks.

OK mate cheers, I'll think bout it.

This bosch one £50 http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Golf_1.8_1988/p/car-parts/engine-parts/ignition1/ignition-coil/?413440020&1&33bdcca17428346798713ea68ff6c31245e761e9&IGCO

It looks totally different from the one I've got, would it still work though, or am I best getting one for a 2.0l engine?

The abf one is cheap as chips, but has a plug on it, could I adjust my wiring to suit. That ideas stupid actually.

New bosch coil, no spark lol On the positive side, there is 3 connectors, should all 3 be connected to a wire, only two of mine are.

How does it look? blue wire is black and red bit further down.

Just looked and cannot see a thrid wire that may have fell off, it's got 12v ffs!!!!!!!!!! If sticking a screw driver init should I see a spark.

Can't remember exactly what colour wires are on what terminals without looking, but I'm pretty sure its a double plug with two red wires, to + side, and some black wires on - side, only 2 I think, the 3rd spade is free for when its plugged into oscilloscope. But don't quote me on that. They may be reversed polarity. And don't go sticking a screwdriver in it. Also Some coils become damaged when breaking the neutral so don't mess I'd say until your 100%. sure..if I remember 2mrw ill have a butchers at mine, or maybe pm rj if he doesn't mind me saying!!

Cheers mate, yer that double plug I got rid of, ended up snapping the connectors trying to get it on! so just got the old one off and put single terminals on, it's wired exactly the same, I'm guessing it doesn't matter if the black wires are mixed up, as maybe I put them in differently.

OK wont stick my screwdriver in again! On the king lead theres no spark when trying that either. Put in a new rotor arm and dizzy cap too.

This car is slowly turning me insane!

Get your ms looked at I reckon. It doesn't sound like your parts, more like your wiring!

On the engine loom, what pins on the plug should the wires from the coil go into, as maybe I have cut one of these or something, don't think I did as getting 12v.

Oh and when the leads are connected up, I here poppping sometimes, then when turn engine off of cranking it pops again even though cranking has stopped. Is that spark doing that, if so, is timing some how well out ( havnt touched my engine)
