When i push the car past 5k, the car starts to smell like engine is getting trashed, is this normal?
-
What does "thrashed" smell like?
-
i dunno hard to expalin, When u get a boy racer in front of you and he is pushing the car to the limit and u get that smell.
-
Well if you push up towards the redline, the engine will get hotter. Might be the ko4 warming the bulkhead up. Look on the bright side, at least yr feet won't get cold.

just having a look online, it seems to smell like hot oil, just seems odd to smell it in the car.

Could be a breather issue then, as the rev's increase so will crankcase pressure accordingly. If the breather system has leak, oil mist/pressure from the engine will exit into the engine bay and then through into your heating/cabin.
Breather systems are much more complicated these days, years ago it just entailed a pipe venting downwards from the crankcase, maybe through some filter/gauze or back in through the air filter.

oh joy, the first fun job of the mk 5 lol

Do you have any under bonnet modifications like a vent to air catch can?
-
none at all the car is NA
-
The recirc flap vents in the scuttle panel behind the engine, if you have got the vent on fresh air which it is if you have not get recirc switched on then you will get all of the smells from under the bonnet and outside.
