Title: Hi revs after long run?
Post by: James Q on 20 March 2011, 16:14
hey guys, took the mk2 out for a longish drive (100 miles) and after being on the motor way for 30/40 mins then coming to a stop, the rev needle settles on 1200 rpm if your sitting in 1st or nuetrul, instead of the normal 8/900? after a few minutes it settles down to 8/900 rpm, any ideas, or is it just one of those things lol! its the 8v gti btw.

if its a digifant check the idle switch is clicking when throttle is closed and wiring to the switches behind the TB is ok. if idle switch isnt clicking make sure throttle cable isnt too tight, and its not all stiff. a new cable is recommended if its still the original, will make a real difference to the feel of the car. a quick spray of silicone lube down it is a good idea if pattern as some can be a bit dry
