Hi all,
No doubt been spoken about before but I cant turn anything up with a search.
Ive replaced the front speakers in the doors with a pair of decent coaxials and as nice as they sound, the same cannot be said about the dash top tweeters!
If I unplug the two cables running into them, I obviously lose the feed to the ones in the doors, how can I disable them and still allow the full signal feed to the co-axs in the doors?
Thanks in advance

i think the tweeter is connected to the door speaker, if you trace the wire they should be joined.
-
Im assuming the tweeter unit contains the crossover and therefore I could just bypass it by wiring the input [to the tweeter] to the output [to the door driver] ?
Sound about right?
-
afaik they are wired in parallel , so disconnecting them wont knock out the door speaker . It is possible to 'fit' aftermarket tweeters in the original mount btw
-
Sorry mate, disconnecting them does knock out the door speaker, hence the question.
If this proves a total PITA I will fit a set of components, seemed silly not to try the coaxs first though.
Cheers

if wired in series it should go from HU + to tweeter , -from tweeter to door speaker pos , - from door speaker to -HU if that makes sense.
sounds strnge tho cos in my mk 3 the door speaker was not working but the tweeter was , which would not work if they were wired the way I have mentioned.
-
Think I just need to get busy with tracing the wires then.
Wouldn't be any easier fitting components when I think about it; Id still have to disable the factory tweeters or run seperate cables
-
try disconnecting the tweeters , i think its like a dual plug , and bridge the connections + to + . - to - with paperclips
-
Yeh, that's the plan I think; it's two seperate 2 pin plugs
-
Just reporting back for anyone else wanting to do this - yeh, the way to do this is to wire + to + and - to - fairly self explanatory when you see the plugs.
Tweeters now removed and feed only to the door speaker location
