hi ppl i have a 1.6 mk4 at the mo but im looking to get a 1.8t gti and just wondered what r the common faults and what shud i be looking out for before i buy?

I've driven my mates 1.6 and it is DOG SLOW compared to my remapped 1.8t, you will love the difference.

Here is a checklist I made when searching for mine, if you search on here for anything which stands out/looks expensive you'll find more info :)

cheers mate thats really helpful. what i cant understand is i just got a quote on a gti 18t and its cheaper that a 1.8 petrol zetec mondeo lol
im not complaining but i thought it wud be group 14-17

not seen any local ones yet. there was 2 but had no service history and a dodgy story about the cambelt and waterpump has been changed but no reciepts or paper work.im not that stupid lol

I would expect all 1.8t's have that kind of key yeah :)

There are a lot of cheap ones on the market mate. You will quickly realise you need to spend a few quid for a good one.

Mines up for 2600 if you're interested... :P

looks really nice mate but i need a 5dr :( ive got 2 little kiddies and its such a chore trying to fit them in lol.
not sure how much i have to spend as im trying to sell my 1.6 golf at the mo and put the money from that towards it.im thinking i might have about 1700 max as its the mother in law puttin money towards it 2 lol

i keep seeing ppl talking the engines in the 1.8t as agu/arz/aum or the auq/awp
what do these mean and which i is the better engine to buy if this makes sense? lol

Hello mate engine code agu is the earlier model 1998-2001 i think. these models come standard with the ko3 turbo in them and are mainly in 5 door models. Later models like auq have the ko3s in them same turbo realy but the ko3s is more tunable with a good remap. I have a agu but just had the ko3 replaced by a ko3s!!!!! :grin: plus the agu models normally come standard with the full recaro front and back seats :smiley:
