if you can afford it go for the proper ones in the front (quicker and more reliable).
for the rears you have to go aftermarket and be prepard to be imaginative

I answered this in your parts wanted thread, but ECP do a mk1 cab kit but it's about ?120 and it's only the fronts.
-
thank you all ? where would i get proper ones from and can the mk2 ones go in does anyone now :undecided:
-
What's your definition of "proper ones" ? :undecided:
-
is this a hard thing to under take? would like leki windows! how lazy?? lol
-
not sure what you are on about ? toofunkyhouse but any way Gibby i think it means vw originals
-
Original VW ones or after market ones made for mk1 cabs, cant see there being much difference really, they both put the windows up and down when you press a button.
-
i ment, how hard is it to fit leky windows to a mk1 ?
-
when i am saying originals i mean the bosch made ones that are the proper motor on arm type and not the after market cable over the handle winder type. the differnce in cost is the cheap cable driving the window wnder handle ones are around ?100 for the pair and the bosh are nearer ?300 for the pair, but the bosh ones will be reliable, quicker and smother.
fitting wise the bosh is harder as they require the window mechanism to be removed and replaced, whereas the other type just use the mechanism thats already there and simply drive the winder handle spline.
depends what you want in the end.

Theoretically, it's a doddle. But the reality hurts like hell! I took most of the skin off my knuckles trying to fit the scissor mechanism into the door. I got the kit from Eurocarparts for about ?120. It took about 7 hours to get the mechanisms in, and about an hour to wire it all up. There is a write-up on the forum somewhere, have a search for it.

MK1's and MK2's wont fit you need aftermarket cab ones as these are scissor type ones, the after market switches are copies and therefor naff just wire up passat switches to the center console you may have the spaces already there to fit them. As long as you have relays set up for the switches you wont have a problem, a mate of mine wired the switches direct worked for one week and burnt the switches out.
Pain in the backside to fit and you may have to tweak your door.
