hay can anyone inform me of the legal limit for tinting rear windows including the bootlid as i have two kids and the blinds i have are just winding me up and look sh!t    Think i am right in saying that the rear side windows dont have any restrictions on them but not sure what the law is on boot lid   If anyone can shed light on this would be awsome as the sun is starting to show some sort of life again and i know it will make the car look better also its a 96 3 door 8v gti

rear sides have no limit (look at the golf mk3 van...they have metal instead of glass for zero visability!)
same with the back window although if you have a wiper fitted it must work for the mot!

The UK Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986 Act details the legality of window tinting in the UK - and as amended specifies the minimum levels of light that must pass through the windscreen and front side windows.
For a legal window tint in the UK the specifications are:
a) Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985
b) The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%.
c) The front side windows (to either side of the drivers’ head) must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.
If the glass is tinted to a point whereby it lets through less light, the vehicle is breaking UK Window tinting law.
hope this helps

and to add a plane standerd window lets in 87% ish light (well that what they tested on a mates car)

Its not a legal requirement for any car to have a rear wash wipe , its not part of the mot test and never has been.

NOT TRUE.
Same with front fog lights, they don't even turn them on in the MOT. Or reverse lights, don't even try them.

agree as above. Bellend is 100 per cent on this.
