Title: VagTacho Help Please

Hi

I have a VagTacho Cable from ebay if i try to reprogram the car to get miles to empty using this cable will it break my dashpod??

just right down the original figures so if it goes pete tong you can just use the old coding to take it back to how it was  :smiley:

Cool do you mean as in save the file before I write a modded file?

from what ive read on vag-tacho there is loads of digits and you change one here and one there... right down all the digits before you change them.. then if it all goes wrong.. put back in the details you wrote down at start.. thats my knowledge on it.. if you not confident get someone on here to do it for you  :smiley:

Always make a back up, but you still stand a chance of bricking the cluster if it fails during a write and locks the eprom out.

Hi Neil,

 yeah printed off your how to,  what do you mean by the it getting bricked ? why would it do this? also would the ebay cable work ok?? worried now lol

If the writing of the eprom gets interupted or corrupted then sometimes it is not possible to write your backup file to the cluster to recover it, this means the cluster is about as much use as a brick hence the term bricked
