hi all ive joined up for a bit of advice as i have had some really bad news!!
i have a p reg golf and have been told the gearbox is knackered amongst other things.we cannot afford to fix it so now need to get rid asap as its our family car and without it we are well and truly stuck!
but we know little about prices for things, and have had people advising us to sell it as it is for scrap etc......but someone else has advised to just sell bits of it off ourselves.the reason is that is has borbet alloys, vento front end,kw coilovers and heated leather recaros.
so.....what i want advice on is what would you do if it was yours.as we obviously need to get money from this so we can get a new car
-
if you can cope with having bits of car sat about for a while, strippign it and sellign stuff seperate will get you the most money. the heated seats and doorcards alone should fetch around 400, but it depends on colour and condition. borbets again couple hundred depending on model and condition of them, ebay prob best place to list stuff as most amount of chumps on there who will pay over the odds for stuff ;)
how much money do you need out of the car? also what engine is it

If it's running Borbets it is most likely to be 4x100 pcd so not a gti/vr6. Braking for parts will most definately get you the most money back. Strip it of what you can and then weigh the rest in as scrap
-
As Dom said, sell what you can and weigh the rest in.

+1 for the breaking and selling, but as also mentioned, be prepared to have bits sitting around for a little while.
I'm interested in the Vento front end, depending on the colour of course. haha

the car is 2.0 8v

Why not put it up sale as spares or repairs, should sell ok.
Is it 5 stud then, I guess it must be with being a 2.0
-
5 stud???not a clue,would have to ask other half!!
how much should i put it up for if it was for spares or repairs do you think?
-
I would break it and sell the parts then call a scrappy to pick up whats left.
-
You wouldn't get much more than £100 as spares or repair as a whole car I suspect, maybe a bit more due to the parts, unless you find a person who wants all the parts you're selling.
Compare that to probably the best part of £1000 if you were to break it and sell it for parts.
-
Funny looking vento front end!

/\ That is a particularly nice looking car too.
It doesn't look like your car has the plastic arches too.
-
Not that having no GTI arches fitted would mean it wasn't actually a GTI or Vento fronted Golf though..
-
I've got experience in breaking and trying to sell bits of the car. It's not as easy as it sounds, you'll have lots and lots of parts laying around for ages. The only thing that'll sell well is the leather interior, the alloys, VR6 splitter and some random bits like maybe an indicator or parcel shelf or something.
What actually needs doing? It may be something silly/easy/cheap.
-
got the reciept and it says vento 10/92 bonnet?? :undecided:
and thinking of asking to leave it at a mates while we sell off the decent bits and then scrap the rest!
-
That really isn't a Vento front end.

it needs new gear box..and loads of bushes and engine mounts....and we cannot afford to fix all that

what is it then?

Ok yes that is a vento front end
-
decision made....we are breaking it.....got people interested in coilovers, wheels and front end.but if anyone else needs some bits then let me know as we are going to take a few bits off and then scrap it....lets hope the kids dont mind tripping over car parts for a while, lol
-
Good luck with selling the parts
-
Just get a second hand gearbox and put that in. Any scrap yard/ebay/breaker should be able to source you a second hard gearbox etc for not much money.
-
fair one! sell the Borbets and get some Long beaches for about £30! Get a gearbox off a scrappy for about 50 quid, the rest goes on your bushes and mounts and source them yourself. Get a mate of a mate to do the work on the cheap, jobs a gud un!
-
Shame looks a nice car...
-
would be a good plan if we knew someone to do the work but unfortunately we dont
it is a nice car but in a way im glad,it only has a lap belt in the middle of the back seat and i have 3 daughters.the oldest has to wear the lap belt and i dont trust them in an accident.want to get a car with 3 proper belts in the back to keep my girlies safe
