Ordered an RNS510 LED from Nick (N13KKF) from the forum on Monday and the box arrived this morning at work
At home tonight I spent 20 mins swapping over the two units with the longest time spent wrapping the GPS aerial in fabric tape to stop it rattling around. For those contemplating it but a little unsure it is very very easy. :smug:
Unit is excellent and I can recommend Nick - not easy sending cash on trust but he delivered the goods and a nice guy to deal with so from my experience I can recommend him.
Just got to work out how to use the RNS510 now
How do I check the firmware version and map version please? holding the set up key for over a minute and nothing - just the radio set up screen
I also couldnt immediatley work out how to enter a postcode :embarassed: <now worked it out>
Also will need to get VCDS coded to ensure MFSW can work the unit - only volume control is live at present
-
Also, must say I am pleasantly suprised with the sound quality - need to push it a bit harder but first impressions are positive - certainly no worse than the 310 I had.
-
Pictures? :)
The RNS310 I had my old Leon was pretty damn good, 510 must be sweet :)
-
It is Dan - really pleased with the upgrade - just need to work the thing now!
Oh and then add the Bluetooth module
-
I have a Premium Bluetooth module that needs a home. It is *not* the one that works with the iPhone, but rSAP phones. If that suits you, then you just need the cables.
-
Nice work mate, the 510 gives the whole dash a massive lift, the bluetooth is tip top too

Hi Sam
I have an iPhone 4 so will need one that is compatible - thanks for the offer though ;)

It does change the whole look of the dash doesn't it - hopefully wont be long before I can put bluetooth in there
-
Shame one can't just update the firmware of the bluetooth modules, as I bet they're similar inside!
-
FYI my Iphone 4 was that bad on my VW car kit that I've gone back to a Nokia 8800.....
Iphone 3 works fine - it's bonkers
-
I've not seen any issues with the bluetooth module I have and the iPhone4. If it was even slightly rubbish, I too would have done something about it.
My module reports itself as the following:
Address 77: Telephone (J412) Labels: 3C0-035-730.lbl
Part No SW: 5N0 035 730 D HW: 5N0 035 730 D
Component: Telefon 009 0511
Revision: -------- Serial number: XXX
Coding: 020000000000000000000000
Shop #: WSC 00000 000 00000
ASAM Dataset: EV_UHVPremi A01005
ROD: EV_UHVPremi_VW36.rod
VCID: 295C7041F97F
I think I have changed the coding since then, but that's my module. Bought off fleaBay. Premium + A2DP.
Here is a similar one to the one I bought: http://www.bricarauto.com/product_info.php?products_id=93

Bump for my original question and also notice I don't have a "fader" option in my tone settings :(
Heard that this can be due to the unit being updated outside of the car.
Is this simply a case of VCDS coding or would a soft reset do it?
Thanks
-
It prob needs recoding in the car

Shows what to do and shows that you have to tell it what speakers are in.
-
My speakers weren't correctly coded so no fader when I installed. Needed coding for Dynaudio. Check with VCDS.

Have a read here (http://www.carsystems.pl/media/instrukcje/Installation%20instructions%20for%20Bluetooth%20v1.4.pdf) Adrian.
Step 14.1.2: Make sure that the car clock is set to 24hr, via the MFD controls. Remove the key from the ignition. Power on the RNS510 and then press the ‘Setup’, ‘Information’ and ‘Eject’ buttons on the RNS510 simultaneously. This will put the RNS510 into a forced firmware update mode and will allow downgrade and upgrade of the unit.

Thanks Geoff - have PM'd Darren to see if I can call over for a VCDS update session!

Will do! Did a soft reset and the balance/fader option was there momentarily then it went!!

Thanks Keith
this should be on thelatest firmware and maps - just intrigued on how to check! Don't want to start the firmware update unnecessarily so will leave that bit for now.
Bluetooth install should be relatively easy :)

How do I check the firmware version and map version please?
You can check the firmware RNS 510 Secret Menu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZMqOUSFRoE)
-
Thanks - once I've fully VCDS'd the car this will be one of the changes to access the info ;)

I have the iphone4 and mines working fine too, A2DP music quality is sh!t but thats about it!
What problems do you get with it?
-
Buck cheers for the kind words mate glad your happy with it
Your version C is running fw2760 and v7 maps, i may have enabled the secret menu
Hold down the setup button for 20-30 seconds and it should display if i enabled it
Id recommend the MOBRIDGE bt unit for anyone whos interested i have fitted this in mine
And its a great bit of kit and an easy install. Its about £350 but id say its worth it. All my opinion
Of course :)

No problem Nick - praise where it's due.
Unfortunately secret menu's not enabled. Will get it done via Darren when I get a free weekend ;)
