Hi, I have just bought a 1995 2.0SE automatic golf cabrio. The gearbox works in first and second but slips after this,. Can anyone help me in finding another gearbox for the car please. I am lead to believe it is a CLK model box. Many thanks.

Drain and replace the oil first.
Check the old oil and see if it smells burnt etc.

I have been told that the oil and filters have been changed.. I have not driven it yet, but it drives okay in first and second, but it slips in 3 and 4.. I was thinking the only way was to replace it, as I am in France and to get it fixed here is a joke. I have seen oils that say they can stop the slip but hey.. I am no expert with auto boxes so any help and advice is very apreciated.. I will however check it and have a smell but this has already been tried..But thankyou for the advice.

Not 100% sure what else to suggest, I believe it is a computer controlled box so maybe find someone that can plug a laptop in and see if any faults are shown.
Has to be worth a go before buying another gearbox

i would never take a sellers word that anything had been done, so as above i would drop the oil out and refill with fresh ATF. it should have a dipstick though I think so check that 1st, if oil level is correct and is nice n red plus smells ok (as much as ATF can ) then its prob gonna be a bigger job :(
