Can anyone tell me if they've had a problem with a really creaky parcel shelf and if so how did you stop it (short of taking it out like i have up to now)

Hello Boggle,
Did you find out what the annoying parcel shelf creak was. Just bought a mk4 and mine does the same.
Thanks m8

are you sure its from the shelf as i get a rattle from the glove box which i give it a slap and stops

Eye lad, defo the shelfo or maybe the rear pillar area.. Will drop seats at take a ride down bumpy back lane at weeend and with someone else driving and try and rectify problem. :undecided:

MY old markIV 1.8T had numerous rattles.I had to wedge between the windscreen and the dash to cure the serious one.Dealer still had it in when they were selling it on....other rattles included...parcel shelf/passenger front seat/glove box/rear speaker trim(nearside)...But I loved it... Then there was the window drop ...

If your sure it's the shelf, try a bit of wd40 on the locating bits. got to get a mate to drive mine over a few bumps with me in the boot to locate a few squeaks meself!

I think that it the hard suspension that does it. got to work out where quite a few other rattles are coming from.

I haven't tried putting the shelf back in at all but i will try the WD40 trick as it's def from the shelf or the plastic that it sits on as it stops when i remove the shelf

thats strange, back self usually fits quite snug, i dont find anything rattles, all i get sometimes is a funny crack sound from the windscreen  but it doesnt do it all the time, so i thought that it maybe something to do with temp change

also, i put some draft excluding foam on the plastic side bits where the shelf sits.
