Right i know il get a bias opinion but im currently debating weather to get a 1.8t golf or another 306 gti6...
Loved the 6 and for the price they are ALOT of car for the money and im swaying towards it but i really want something abit more grown up and better built.
Obviosily id get the golf remaped if i was to get one being as the 6 was pretty quick and i like some power
Thing is il'l have around 1300 to 1400 to buy either one,is it sensible to get a 1.8t for that kind of money or would i be asking for trouble?
Opinions VERY welcome (even if there bias)
-
your asking a VW forum which they prefer ?? :lipsrsealed:
-
power gains from the 1.8t will be a lot better than the 6 gti6 170 bhp mapped golf close on 200 bhp if done ryt get the golf you know it makes sense
-
and as dan said on a golf forum site was you thinking we were gonna say get a ford
-
Im gona say get anything other than VAG
-
im gonna say see you all later cos im off to bed
-
Like i said just wanted opinions lol
What is a VAG and why shouldnt i get it?
Yeah it does make sense to get a golf to be fair
-
Volkswagen Audi Group
volkswagen
audi
skoda
seat
bugatti
etc
etc
etc
And i was joking i advise you to buy these makes of car
-
Alright but do you think it would be sensible to get a golf for around 1300 quid?
-
you could struggle to get a good 1.8t for £1300
-
Why not get a mk3 16v still better than the 306.
-
or a mk2 2l 16v

Yes, fair point, stand more chance of a tidy mk3 however.

No way are they if you've ever drove a gti-6 you'll know how good they handle better then the mk3 golf and mk4 and the 6 beats the vr6 and 1.8t hands down.
Dont know if you've seen this

With respect your asking on a VW forum would someone buy a Peugeot, yes it is a good car but with a few choice mods so can the mk3 and mk4.
The 1.8t can be remapped which will give you very worthwhile gains, the mk3 needs a good quality susp. kit
-
I do think your on the wrong forum
-
Lol try asking the same question on the pug forum lol!

Yep and then listen to all the VW haters.
-
Iv been a member of 306gti6.com for a few years now and yes they hate vw's
I am going to look for a golf though better built can look better with some 18's and coilovers on so yeah going for it

306 more raw, more balls out fun, have be on the boil at the top of the revs.
Golf..better built, more low down grunt when mapped, dont handle anywhere near as well, feel heavy....but better (perceived!) quality.
Both good in their own right :)
-
ye imo i dnt really care how nippy those 306 gti's are ....pugs are sh!t! they are flimsy, fall apart made by communists, unreliable, tinny, you wudnt want a bump in one it'll fold up like its made of paper.you cud pop a nippy engine and hard springs in any car dnt make it a good car though. i'd rather have a golf even on a 1300 quid budget like mentioned than own a pug however quick it may be.... vag or something jap is the way to go!!!!!!!!

Yeah your so right the 306 is a classic hot hatch and very hard to beat on the handling front, but like iv said iv'e had one before so time for a change now plus the golf is a much much nicer place to sit the 306 has a horrible driving position.

french = communists :undecided:
for 1300 id buy a pug, just due to budget, you will prob end up with a bit of a battered golf for that kind of money which throws the reliability pro out the window.
306s are great fun, ive owned a few over the years and only real troubles ive had is with the electrics. but if your doing long drives then those seats are the most uncomfortable in the world!
any other cars your looking at?

no not really not in recent years but the fcp (french communist party) was the largest left wing party for decades for most of last century . if they controlled that many seat in french parliament then they have been voted to that position by the french public thus showing support for communists.so they must be communists. i rest my case :nerd: :lipsrsealed:

I've never run into a gti-6 before but I have had a run with my mate's alfa 147gta after he was hyping up his car alot so he asked me to stop being a wuss and get alongside him so I did, was pretty even till 3rd at the top end of 3rd I just started pulling away from him, pretty much game over and Im only pushing a pathetic 240+ bhp - it's a daily student shopping car. I've not spent much to get to the power I'm at now, it's a cheap and cheerful car to tune, although I can't speak for the peugeot's 2.0L 16v engine I doubt that you'll be able to get as much power out of that engine for the same amount of money on mods. So for me it would have to be the 1.8t, if you must get a french car the renault megane r26 is quite rapid, I've been on a few cruises with a mapped up r26 and it pulled very nicely.

i agree about the r26 and possibly new clio cup but other than that i wudnt go french at all. renault interiors are crap aswell cheap plastics.and this geezer only has 1300 quid so he ent getting a r26 or clio cup so i think he needs to take the right advise and find a golf. i'd rather a 1.6 golf than the pug. you can get a 100k gti golf for about 1500 quid that wont be to bad look around. all cheap cars will need changes to them ie wheels suspension etc when ur doing them up.if you want better cars work hard save the pennys .dnt settle for crappy pugs just cuz u cant stretch urself.better to have a lesser model good car than a top range sh!t one!
-
You'll find it hard to get even 5 or horses out of the 306 just because the engines are very well tuned as standard. My budget for a golf isn't high I know but id have it as a but of a project. I study body repair at college so can get tips on the body side of things. Engine wise just service and the right oil and if anything goes wrong then that's just how cars go there all made to break at some point lol. All I ask is that it's black
-
Ad another £500 to yor budget and you can have mine!
Verry reliable car and comftable for a hot hatch!
-
Need to see if the bank will give me loan 1st  post a pic up mate
-
Ye will do later mate!
its not black mind! hahah
Its jazz blue with 18"s and forge diverter!
