Post by: tech1889 on 13 March 2011, 21:19
Anyone got any tips for fitting a vinyl roof ?? i have all the vinyl here and ive watched some vids...

im just unsure on how to cut the front and rear and sides so they look professional ??

Also how to deal with the mk4 aerial is it easy to remove or do i have to tuck it under it ??

The aerial was the main reason I put off doing my roof. I ended up going off the idea of a black roof and sold the vinyl I had. Have since seen a Signwriters just down the road from me and the do stuff for vehicles so if I ever think about doing it again I think I'll go see the professionals. I reckon if you take your time and have a mate to help you then it should be ok. PM corf on here. He does roofs and stuff for a living and he was who I got my vinyl from. I'm sure he said you can lift the rubber bit at the bottom of the aerial and then cut out a circle smaller than the rubber then put the rubber back.

Nope do it =] The aerial isnt to hard to get off. Just remove the bit of plastic towards to rear of the headlining pull the back of the headlining down a bit careful not to bend it. Then just undo the nut and the aerial plug.

I covered my roof in carbon fibre  but i did it in the cold because i got bored and impatient.

Make sure its a was day.
Use the applicator spray.
Make sure you have cleaned all the groves round the edges especially along the front.

Needless to say i didn't do these things and f**ked up 2ms of carbon vinyl.

So come spring i'll be trying again.

Ive seen pros work and it still has lil imperfections which i wouldn't be happy with if i paid someone.

Give it a go

yeah give it ago and let us know how you get on
straight things seems easy but with the size of the roof would be good to have help from a couple of people to hold the vinyl out and then you can put the middle down and work your way out maybe?
been thinking of doing it myself but doing it this way with a couple of mates holding it out while i work from the middle outwards,
mite be a bit difficult on your own
i see what you mean about getting a perfect edge tho
