Title: Parking sensors & new RNS510
Post by: tanz1978 on 13 March 2011, 20:33
I'm new to this forum so hello all

I used to have a Mk4 GTI but have been away from VW's for a while. Now hoping to return by getting a Mk6 GT... so impressed with the Mk6!

Anyway, quick question... one of the cars I'm looking at has parking sensors but only the RCD310 installed. If I splashed out on an RNS510 is it simply a case of setting up the visual parking stuff when installing the 510 or are there wires/connectors that will need to be put in place? I'm assuming with the RCD310 the parking sensors are just audible but is all the wiring in the right place to make them visual on the 510?

Hope that makes sense and any info would be appreciated. Just trying to decide between an older GT with an RNS510 'B' and visual parking all set up or a 6 month old one with parking sensors and an RCD310 with the plan being to replace that with a RNS510.

Cheers

ps I've had a search around for an answer and couldn't find anything but I'm under a bit of pressure to make a decision early this week so wanted to get some info asap!

The RCD310 shows visual aids too but on a basic level. I would imagine the you'd be able to code an RNS to show the sensor image, plenty of bods on here that'll help with that for a few beer tokens.

I've posted that before, i'm starting to sound like a pimp!

A warm welcome to the forum.
Buy the newer car with acoustic parking sensors and then replace the better sounding but unattractive RCD310 with the worse sounding but more featured and versitile LED RNS510* Sat Nav as a retro-fit.
This is what I did.
All the best.

To answer your question you just have to code the RNS to use the parking sensors nothing more.

Cheers guys and thanks for clarifying it's just a setting on the RNS510 that can be done at install. Phew :)
