Title: my 1st mk4 1.6 golf

hi ppl im danny live in norwich.
just bought a 1.6 mk4 golf.first thoughts on it r good.feels gd to drive.just downgraded from a v70 2.5t so feels a little slugish.wish i could of afforded a 1.8t.
should of really asked theses questions b4 i bought it but what r the common problems on these please?
just failed the mot :( it failed on the emissions not sure how to fix that.

Welcome  :cool:

Dodgy window regulators, door modules, leaking rear wiper motors to name a few.

Gearboxes are also prone to fail.

lol they sound wonderful :P
my passenger front door wouldnt open went and bought a new door catch from the scrapyard and all of sudden it started to open lol.just had cv gator joint done.now i have noticed a knocking noise when i go over bumps on the n/s/r wheel could be bushes i suppose.still wondering what my emissions problem could be.

no fault codes as of yet as i havent had it plugged in.havent got alot of money so cant afford anything yet :(

Ahh i remember my first mk4.. I only bought it december 2009 and it got written off in september 2010  :cry:, faults i had with mine included replacing the clutch, the inner and outter vc boot seals, and an o2/lamda sensor :D Loved it to bits tho.. On my second one now  :grin:

cool, im having all sorts of trouble with mine now. just been told head gasket is going/gone so 1 prob after another :( im now looking for a 1.8 t gti hope i have more luck with that. been told they have better engines
