Title: Assistance with installing RNS510, OEM W7 BT Kit, OEM Microphone
Post by: The Meister on 13 March 2011, 11:27
Hi - I'm useless that at these things, but was wondering on the off chance if there is anyone on this forum that would be able to help with installing these items for me in my Mark 6 GTI, or recommend a local fitter to me?  They will also need coding in on VAGCOM.

I am in Nottingham, but could travel within reason.  Local car audio place have quoted me £120+VAT and that won't include coding

The new W7 BT kit is supplied with a short cable, as it is designed to fit behind the RNS510.

Cheers

 to check details/prices etc.

The rns 510 is literally a five minute job though, surround off, 4x torx screws out, unclip cable, swap radio, back in!

Bluetooth kit takes a little longer but still noting too hard!

Drop me a PM if you want some more info.

Or contact darren, hes aways fitting peoples on here.

Although it didn't make me want to do it myself, Darren did mine. :smug:

Thanks chaps - I'll read the threads and see if I can do it myself.  The microphone in the A Pillar worries me, i.e. getting the cable back to the head unit without breaking anything

Well, the product arrived today from Ebay in perfect condition and I fitted it myself in about 10 minutes, so easy so you were all quite right   I was nervous the code wouldn't work, but no issues at all.  I had to put some insulation tape around the GPS receiver and it then fitted nice and tightly in the shelf above the unit, as directed on this forum.

Everything works perfectly and mine has the LED screen and V7 maps with full post coding.  It's a significant improvement to the car from the RCD310, in function and looks  :smug:

The only thing that needs sorting is Vagcom coding, so the MFD shows Navigation directional arrows (it shows everything else).

Still can't believe I got it for the price I paid, given what the factory want, and also the stealers for retro fitting.  Why would anyone order from the factory?  The stealers quoted me £3,600 for the RNS510 and Bluetooth kit, without fitting

Getting Bluetooth fitted next week in Leicester.

Happy days............

Don't you need a compass module for this feature?

No. The navigation arrows in the MFD will appear once coded via Vagcom. All that's needed is the GPS unit.

What is the compass module anyway?

^^^ US Cars have a separate compass module so non nav cars can show the direction.

Hi guys, I've got a standard fit stereo in my 2011 GTI, "a ...310" or summat? I have also got the DAB upgrade.
Now, here's where the fun begins. I've got a massive itch to get an RNS 510 latest version (D). Would also like the bluetooth upgrade. If I upgrade to the 510, will I still be able to hook up the DAB upgrade to it?? Or does the 510 come with a DAB upgrade as standard. I need some guidence please. Also, where should I purchase from? :-) thanks.

If you upgrade to the RNS510 you will lose DAB :(

If you contact Nick on here (N13KKF) hd can sort you a version C with latest maps (v7) and firmware with LED screen. I bought mine from him. Very quick, good comms and all round nice guy.

Not sure what version D adds or where you'd get one from?
