Hey all, been offered a mk4 golf very cheap. 1.6. If i had it eventually i would want to put a 1.8t engine into it. My question is first has anyone done this before. And 2 does anyone know what i would need? Im guessing
1.8t Engine with all the bits alternator etc etc
and ecu.
Would i be able to keep the same wiring loom?
and 2 would the gear box be the same
Any help would be very much appriciated.
might seem alot of work but i would be using the car for now then when i get an engine and everything i need spend a week doing a swap.
Thanks
Gav

why dont just buy 18t to start with(they are very cheap at moment) or try to keep cheap insurance

Not worth it with the price of 1.8Ts these days.
1.6 Gearbox is different ,You will also need Brakes hubs wiring, ecu, etc etc
Also consider the cost of modified insurance against a standard 1.8T.

dont bother mate, buy a 1.8t, insurance will be more on the conversion, it will never be a gti
-
do it mate why not its a project and projects are always fun.. plus all the parts you need you will be able to source easily...
or just buy a 1.8t for like £1200+

Thanks all. Dont think ill bother. Sounds ALOT of work.

My mate just picked up a fairly good 1.8T for £1800, 100k on the clock on a T reg so they're out there....
