Did you fit a new O ring?

The thermostat housing is know to crack upon refitting, as with age and the changes in temperature they go brittle.

Have a visual inspection before buying anything though, it may not be the thermostat housing after all. However unless you've fitted the O ring badly then it has to be the housing.

You might have pinched / trapped the o-ring when you refitted it.
