as above on a 2.0 16v P reg.
cheers
-
Cheap, easy
-
Yeah but what about the starter motor?
-
fairly easy mate.just remember to put a jack under your engine as one of the bolts for the starter
motor goes through engine mount. i done a school boy error and forgot and spent ages trying to put bolt back in.in the end i remembered and jacked the engine up until bolt located hole
-
second hand should only be about £15-£20 and a new about £50-£60. It's very easy to swap on these cars as well.
-
Just remember 16v is different to 8v btw
-
well price wise you're all way off.
GSF want £95+vat and the old unit!
do i need to jack the engine? starter motor looks like it's no where near the engine mount? :undecided:
and yes i'm easy but i'm not cheap
-
Sorry, those were prices for an 8v and i didn't realise they were different on the 16v.

Second hand they're aboute 20. And yes you need to Jack engine, the starter motor holy goes through the front engine mount support.
-
could i use the standard wheel jack that comes with the car?
mines pretty low and i ain't gettin a jack under it!
-
I wouldnt!
-
It's a job easier done from underneath.
-
ramps it is then!
-
ive never done this from underneath, easier to go from above. main problem is you needto lift the engien off the front mount otherwise the bolts wont line up in the holes.
take the top bolt out the front mount, lift engine till it comes off mount. undo the battery +ve & alternator leads, you either need to put the starter + somewhere carefully where it wont short or just remove the battery +ve terminal.
now disconnect the single pin plug with blue wire, then undo 2/3 bolts holding starter in. remove and replace starter, easy!
-
likewise, ive only ever changed them from above to. Why crawl about underneath for no reason?
-
will you people make up your mind!
from above it is then. will i need an FBH to get it moving?
-
f**king Big Hammer?
-
nah it will just fall off when the bolts are undone

f**king Big Hammer?
