Hi
Im in mid restoration on my mk2 gti 8v golf thinking about either sticking a 16v lump in or vr6. But don't wanna spend loads as I'm in quite deep on the cost of the restoration already and if I'm gonna do it nows the time when the cars completely stripped before respray.
I'm not after a race car, to be honest for what car is used for the 8v was plenty but doesnt have the same presence when the bonnets up. The 16v and vr6 look alot better in a clean bay.
I just would like to know the easiest conversion and if any1 has either engine available?? Any help would be great. Craig

Easy to do is a 2.0 8V, nice and torquey lump or I guess you could down the ABF route.
VR6 is ok but can make the car a little nose heavy.

sure dose.
you have to get a bit creative with a few bits.
mainly the dizzy, iirc i swaped the oil pump in from an 8valve and used an 8v K jet dizzy. the wur was fun to mount some small holes were drilled and tapped in the block for that.
it worked ok, but making a new inlet manifold with a larger throttel body that made it a lot more intrested in being intresting. then i sold it but did some tweeeks to it for the guy that bought it off me a few months later. poped a set reprofiled cams in it and f**k my hat it really liked that
only put the na 20v in as it was origanly a 16v kr but the motor was dead and chouldn't find another at the time and na 20vs were everywhere

Thanks for the info, sounds interesting :afro: so is the 20v block much different to the older lumps then.

eraly ones are pritty much the same block just with a few minor changes, the later 20vt's have some magor differances in the block i guess the later ones are the same, but no reson it wouldn't go
