what would be the best/correct way to give a car its first wash ,that has been stood for three years out side! the paint work feels very very rough with all the moss/grime etc that has built up on it and i just dont want to start scrubbing and scratching and damaging the paintwork! would some kind of snow foam or the like be the best bet? cheers
-
A covering of snow foam left to dwell would probably be a good start.
Follow that with something like megs apc at the correct concentration, note this will not only strip the crud but any protection the paintwork had historically (if there ever was any )
After the apc you would probably do well to clay the whole car, wash with ordinary shampoo then work up through polish, sealant wax etc.
I'm sure there'll be some experts along shortly though. Get some before and after shots ;)

I would give it at least a couple of coats of snow foam as a first step

have a look here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=179867.0
snow foam wont be strong enough for removing all the crap on the car you need tfr and a good pressure washer.
-
TFR for sure! then a good wash, clay, machine and protect.
-
i would TFR all over with something like Hazsafe... then pressure wash the hell out of it..
I would do it a section at a time starting with the roof and working downwards... don't forget to pressure wash all the roof drainage lines, scuttle panel and shuts etc
work the window surrounds, door shuts and petrol cap etc with a detailing brush after soaking with an APC/TFR
snowfoam and let dwell and rinse off
wash with two bucket wash
clay
wash with two bucket wash
dry
polish to the extent that you want to
sealant and/or wax of your choice
windows and dressings
job done

ha thats unreal. a friend of mine has an old beetle which he intentionally keeps in a similar state (but not quite that extreme although i'm sure he would be proud of that moss!) and he drives it around like that.
mossy panels with polished chrome trim!

TFR= traffic film remover mate, it'll basically take off anything on the paint such as tar, dirt as well as any protection you've applied like sealant or wax.

this should be the first stage before anything else on a car that's growing plantation out of it?
What's the best brand ? a quick search on ebay shows a fair few people doing the stuff.. My first usuale step is Meg's Hyper Wash with my lance.I presume this is alot stronger?

Autosmart active xl or even G101 will tackle it well.
