hey guys thought I'd post a little thread up here so I can get some C&C.
so this is my golf when i first got it, boring standard golf gti 8v
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/Beenie1600/0006-1.jpg)
so I got to ordering some bits and pieces like wheels
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/Beenie1600/0011-1.jpg)
coilovers
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/Beenie1600/0012-1.jpg)
added the wheels and de-arched it
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/Beenie1600/0018.jpg)
made some all red rear and added some camber
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/Beenie1600/0027.jpg)
then recently I bought an OB1 VR6, it has 149k on it but I'm gonna strip it apart and replace most of it and so the milage didnt phase me, so I started with the gearbox, gave that a bloody good scrub
before

after

just needs paint now. then today I started stripping the engine down and ended up with this
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/Beenie1600/IMAG0047.jpg)
which is gonna have to stay like that for a while till I buy an engine crane and stand.
so yea what ya think?

:undecided: any reason behind wanting to fit a VR would it have not been easier to buy a VR in the 1st place
Good luck with the project.

I guess if he wants to strip the engine down and rebuild it to ensure it is mechanically in good shape then a conversion would be best.
-
yes buying a vr would be easier but not as much fun as building one, and my gti is pretty solid and this as dom said I can build a mechainally sound engine.
maybe a later date I may buy a vr with a duff engine and swap all the bits over.

Fair enough, not sure if you have seen Mikes thread: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=124485.0 well worth a read, I would also suggest replacing the timing chains.
-
yep I'm doing the chains, head gasket, clutch and a few other bits and pieces
-
Good luck with this mate,
where you based?
-
Luton, Bedfordshire mate.
-
Good base car...
liking the rear lights, its got me thinking now
good luck, look forward to watching this
-
Really liking the look of this mate!!! :afro:
-
Good luck.
-
Love those wheels! Good choice!
-
so I lowered my car a little more the other day as it now sits
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/Beenie1600/IMAG0057.jpg)
and ground clearance
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/Beenie1600/IMAG0060.jpg)
also may be getting shot of the wheels and getting some 17 in favour of drivability.
-
My experence of 17"s is they drove worse plus tighter for clearance.
-
really? interesting.
