Just need to wet sand it 2moro then do the final coat and then 3-4 coats of lacquer. Can't wait to get it on and start on the rear one
-
That looks much better coverage than your last one mate top effort.. your really picking this up !!
How comes so mucyh sanding at start ??
-
looks sweet that mate
-
I got a bit carried away at the beginning. Attacked it with a bosch sander with 60 grade paper LOL!!! But it did need it as the paint work on it was terrible. For me to get a good finish most of the paint had to go. But I took my time and good it as good as I could. There are still a few still scuffs and stone chips in it but you can only see them if you get really close to it. Plus it's only gunna get scratched and chipped again anyway. I'm well pleased with it so far but anything can go wrong still.
-
Its running lacquer you have to worry about now

Exactly! Had no problems when I did my standard valances so I'll just take my time and do light coats.
-
  look forward to picies once finished !!
whats the colour match like in person ??

Not offered it up to the car yet to see. I did the last coat that I put on today about 20 mins before I went to footy so I left it indoors to dry and couldn't be arsed when I got home. I'm going to try it 2moro before I carry on with the lacquering. Hopefully I can get as good a match as I did with my standard valances when I did them.
All going well it should be finished on Monday.
-
yer thats what i meant your last one was it a good colour match ??

looks a bit darker but thats actually really good mate..
-
It is slightly darker but not as noticable in the flesh. The camera seemed to pick it out better.
-
thats true i had a pro alloy intercooler on my mk4 and it had spray sprayed or something on the front and real life you couldnt see it but in a pictures it was clear as anything..
-
looks good mate!! all mine need to come off... but not sure what to replace it with.. im thinking r32 front.. its just the rear  and side skirts...
-
All finished but the colour match ain't good enough for my liking. The match I got with my standard valances was much better so I'm going to try again 2moro.
Here's a little pic of how it looked for about 5 mins before I decided it wasn't good enough.

Can't wait to get a better match and have it on the car properly

Tried to get a better colour match today but the process I tried didn't work so I'm kinda stuck with it as it is at the moment. I lightly sanded back the lacquer then add a couple more coats of paint that had been warmed and shaken thoroughly. I'm gunna leave it as it is for the time being and crack on with the rear one I have. If i can get a good match on that then I will sand the front one back to primer and get all fresh paint on it and hope that works. Failing that they will be sitting in my garage until I can afford to get the sprayed properly
-
look good mate. u know some paints even in the same shade can look different when on different types of materials so it will be hard to get it 100% if the valance is texture different to the bumper or metal body work the way its looks will make it look slightly out. i think you done a good job to be honest . thumbs up!!
-
Totally agree with ya mate but I got a pretty good match when I sprayed my standard valances so will have one more attempt before I give up and let the professionals have a go.

ye fair enough. cudnt hurt to have another go can it.at least its not an entire bumper that wud be alot of work. have another go im sure you will be rewarded for your efforts. good luck matey!
-
I tried to do my Anni valance but couldn't for the life of me get a good finish. In fact the best finish I got was a lot like your attempt.
I ended up getting my sprayed by my local spray shop, very good match, couldn't tell the difference. I have had A LOT of work done by them. Cost me £70 for them to spray it.
-
I've done the rear valance and it looks like it's a much better colour match. Won't know for sure until I fit it properly which I can't do until I get some right angled torx bits from my mate at work. May try and find a tool that will do the job in a minute tho.
-
Rear Votex Valance now fitted and looks a much better colour match

What you guys think about the colour match? It's still very slightly darker but it's good enough for me to leave on the car. I'll be re-attempting the front one again next week now I've got this one sorted.
-
looks very good that top job mate
-
I got my mates plastic welder from him today so can start on smoothing the rubstrips on my spare rear bumper very soon as well!!
-
Looking very nice votex valance bargain stealer :lipsrsealed:
Would have looked so much better on mine, i still havnt forgiven the gf for making me go out and miss the auction
-
I for one am glad she took you out, say thank you to her for me
-
Its ok though as im awaiting the DHL van at work tomorrow :smug:
Keeping my fingers crossed it is what i think it is
-
Did you manage to find another ebay bargain then? I hope it's what you think itis if you did.
Ebay bargains are sooooooooooo good
-
What did you get then Gareth? Was it what you thought it was?
-
The van never showed up which means i have to wait till monday
Hate having to wait for stuff, when it arrives I shall give it a clean and take a much better picture of it as the ebay pic was very dark and not very clear :smug:
-
Linky?
-
You might be able to guess :lipsrsealed:
I paid £30 for it, needed the number plate lights and then sell the bumper on
So if i can sell the bumper ill have paid even less for it.

-
Thats a better bargain than mine. £30 inc postage? Have you got the past number for it from the guy? Definitely looks like a votex/anni valance tho
-
I got a favour from a mate who works for a certain company
Part number says its a votex apart from one number which i think is the sellers incorrect info.
Not sure though hence fingers crossed, was very difficult getting the seller to check without hinting it was worth something!
Just hope i can sell the bumper on, if you know anyone who wants a royal green bumper let me know
-
I told the guy I bought mine from that i caught it on my steep driveway and i needed one as I was selling the car soon. Asked if he could tell me the part number so I could check it was the right one for my car
Worked a treat
The part number on mine is 1J0 071 610 if that helps at all?
-
Ah funny that as i reversed into my dads golf and damaged his valance........ swear he drives a suzuki swift though
Part number i was given was 1J0 070 610 but searching i couldnt find anything then saw this thread and was like "It must be  "
-
Yeah looks like he put an 0 instead of 1 on the 071 one bit.
Don't you just love ebay and the ppl on it!!
-
Dont you just lol
Apart from sifting through 95pages/nearly 5000 images just incase
That bumper was on there for 15 days and had a fair few to go to
-
I've been checking daily for about a month now. A bit sad I know but there are bargains to be found.
-
Looks like u got a great match there. Which paints u using? Halfords or more advanced? I done mines quickly over 2 days using the Reflex out Halfords as i was going down to Essex and mines didnt match as good as urs. Got myself booked in to a mates bodyshop next month though, getting the whole car resprayed in Reflex again to make it look good including the valances.
-
I just use the Halfords VW Reflex Silver stuff. Had a fairly good match with my standard valance but the rear has gone better than they did. this time round I warmed the can up in some hot water then shook it constantly for 2 mins. I've sanded the front valance back now so will be getting the paint this week and will hopefully get a good match on it and have it back on the car by the middle of next week.
-
Just finished respraying the front valance to get a better colour match and I also removed the rear valance to give it a couple more coats of lacquer. Both are looking much better now and are in the garage drying. Hopefully the colour match on the front valance will be much better this time. I've also got my stubby mirrors all sprayed up in satin black so over the next few days the car will hopefully look a lot better

Well I've finally got the valances to a stage where I'm happy.
Not quite 100% because I ran out of lacquer so I've not been able to get them as shiny as I would have liked but once funds permit I'll be getting some more lacquer and getting them even shinier.
Here's the pics

What ya think of the colour match? I think both valances would look much closer to the colour of the bumpers if I had more lacquer to apply.
-
you can spot the colour diff a mile off but the spray job looks good and well done for doign it yourself instead of paying someone 100 quid to do it
-
Excellent effort mate
-
i got a few cans of halfords laquer in the garage mate gathering dust. can u post aerosol's????
-
I'm not to sure bud. Don't see why not. If you really don't wNt them then I'll take them of ya hands.
-
If you look in the 2 pics from the front you will notice 2 thin rectangles in my middle grill. I've never really noticed them until now. does anyone have any idea what they might be? I've had a little look and the middle grill has been cut to fit round them and they are attached to each other cos if I wiggle on the other moves too.
-
Bumper off and have a look. Dont think theres any extras for a golf that goes there unless someone used that grill on a smoothed bumper and that was how they attached the plate?
-
Never guess what matey, i nearly had a votex front lip for peanuts untill i received this :(
"had a look at the front bumper and someone has climbed over the fence whilst we've been away and pulled the lower spoiler off and cracked the bumper so sorry we cant help with that"
Gutted that a theiving little twit has robbed my chances of having a votex front lip

Or they realised how cheap it was and bailed on the sale
-
They had already sold the rear bumper to me, so wouldnt have thought any different. Just bad luck i suppose
