my exhaust seems to be playing up.the car has lack of power and popping noise coming from middle box but cant see any holes! is it possible that the baffles might of collasped inside the box would this cause running problems?
-
The best thing to do is get a vacuum and pressure test done on the exhaust including an emissions test. This will determine if your CAT is working and confirm whether there is any leaks in the exhaust or manifold gasket that you might not be able to see.
-
Also if its 'popping' in the exhaust rather than rattling, it may be that its running a bit rough and throwing unburnt fuel into the exhaust?? Would also explain the lack of power anyways!
Let me know what you find, ill be interested to find out what this is

Popping is a sign that it is not running right.

No worries, have you had it scanned for fault codes.

ok more help needed! my exhaust has been tested and is fine, had a split hose going from intake manifold to vacum servo(replaced)the car is still hunting and pulls back when accelerating, had rac out and they cant find fault, took it to a garage and they said they did not want anything to do with it(bastards)....got no error codes coming up on vagcom..sounds like a sabaru at the moment..this is really doing my head in!!! any ideas anyone pls

Have you checked the obvious things mate like plugs and leads dizzy cap?
-
maf have u tryed unpluging it and seeing what happens
-
Coil? It has the ignition amplifier built it, it might be failing. Also the fact that the car holds back under load points towards coil.
-
have had a go changing coil as ive always got a couple spare, but no joy...the car seems to run fine when stone cold then after 10mins starts playing up..just got autodata cd so going to start checking sensors and things.
maf ok
plugs and leads ok
-
It might be your air flow sensor that's knackered which could cause your car to run badly.
Let me know how you get on. Good luck

why does the agg(or other engines)need the pipe coming from rocker cover to intake duct? cant you just plug this and leave crank breather pipe in place?....also is the disc on top of rocker cover serviceable, cant seem to get it off,its got tons of crap in it..which i think will not help my running problems..

The breather pipes need to be fitted as it forms part of a closed loop system. Without it fitted running and idle will almost certainly be affected. The flying saucer looking thing on top of the rocker cover cant be taken apart but what ive done in the past is to soak it in petrol for a while to remove all the mayo gunk from inside it.

yeah that makes sense! mines in a right mess so will give that a go,does it pop out of the rocker cover ok or did you soak it with rocker cover off?
-
Yeah you simply disconnect the hoses then remove the breather pressure regulating valve from the top of the rocker cover, on the AGG engines there are two screws holding it down beneath a square plastic plate then carefully pull it from the rocker cover. Be prepared to replace the rubber gasket/ collar around the base though as these can split when removed as they perish with age.

top stuff!!! cheers
