Title: clutch travel

hi chaps

how easy (or hard) is it to change the length of the clutch travel on a mk3?
i just find it on my 16v just a wee bit to long!

I think you might be able to adjust the height of the pedal, is that what you want to do? I think its quite difficult but not sure  8)

I guess what im trying to do is to reduce the movment of the clutch peddle but more importantly is put the biting point lower down nearer the floor, its to high. if you know wot i mean?!

If the biting point is too high then your clutch is worn out. There shouldn't be much free play on the pedal, as you should have hydraulic clutch or automatic adjusting cable.

My clutch had too much travel once.

are you saying my clutch is worn out or my clutch cable?
wot other signs would there be for a worn out clutch?

Worn out clutch symtoms generally are :- High biting point means low friction material, stiff pedal is either worn out cable or worn out pressure plate, noise when depressing clutch pedal means worn out release bearing.
What mileage has your car done?

81k is quite low mileage for a worn clutch. But i had to replace the clutch on my VR6 at 60k, it depends who owned it previously. In the case of my car some old geezer owned it, he obviously went around with his foot on the clutch as the pressure plate ended up knackered.
